Need to put a new hole in my dash!

My TR3A post 60000 series did not have overdrive when I bought it. It now has overdrive so I have to put a hole in the dash for the overdrive switch. It is a 3/8" hole and goes next to the heater switch. My question is how close are those two holes? So if any of you with said two holes would be kind enough to measure the center to center and let me know, my dash would appreciate it. I would also!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Dick,
My TR didn't come with OD but the hole was already in the dash behind the leather...take a look, I'll bet it's already there.
I added a 5 speed Toy tranny and wanted the OD look so mounted an OD switch (controls spot lamps) in the original dash hole

Bare dash, covering is off prepping for new vinyl. I love your spotlamps switch, now that's re-purposing taken to the max, heh

Tink,

I have both dash's off at home. One with factory OD and the other had a Non Factory OD added.

Will measure for you tonight when I get home from work and will post some accompanying photos.

Cheers,

Here's a pic of the back of my dash with the 3/8" hole. It looks to be half way between the outer edge of the dash and the center line of the heater rheostat. There's a flat in that hole (at the bottom) that orients the switch and prevents it from spinning, but I suppose it's not necessary.

Edit: I measured the pic with my dial caliper, and the hole is a little closer to the heater rheostat then the edge of the dash.

Dick-

Here's another shot for reference, I get roughly 1.75" hole to hole center:

Yep I thought 1.5 would work but 1.75 is fine. Can't do anything about the flat so I will just drill a 3/8" hole and be done with it. The way that switch operates it should be no problem without the flat.

Thanks for all your input!

Sorry Tink,

A little late to the party....was out in the garage and got sidetracked doing a little sandblasting.....

Here are the photos anyway.

Is it my eyes or does the OD hole in the black dash look dif placed than the other? And what kind of added switch is that below the fan rheostat on the black dash?
The red dash is as my '56 for the fan and OD placement.

Hi Guys,

On the black dash, this was the car that was fitted with an aftermarket OD. The hole for the overdrive switch is much further out than the stock postion on the red dash.

The knob below the rheostat on the black dash is indeed the pump for the Tudor windscreen washer system. This is where the PO had it installed.

On the red dash, the odd hole at the bottom of the other two is where the PO had installed a turn signal toggle switch. The car has a Moto Lita installed with the stock center cap but I am assuming that the signals did not work for him there.

Yeah Andy, that would do it. Now I'm going to have to take a look at the switch and see if there is a flat on the mounting shaft. It do, it do have the flat on it. Now I have a decision to make, flat or no flat? Something to think about while I drive to Knoxville this afternoon ...................

Thanks, Tinkerman

Not worth the effort, IMO. The dash currently in TS13571L had been drilled round by the DPO (toggle for turn signals), so I just pulled the nuts up tight when I installed the OD from TS38791LO. Works fine.
