Have a TR4a 1967, trying (slowly) to restore. Today I removed the hood. Sprayed plenty of penetrating oil in bolts (you can't really reach the threads). Tap some with hammer, heated a little. Long story short.. Two captive nuts let go and 3 bolts sheared. Is there a cure for this? Can't reach behind plate to which nuts are welded, no access.
Cut plate, repair and re-weld?
This is going to be a modified car, not strictly original, more like a Rallie, fun car.
Was thinking of:
Removing the hood hinges from car,
Separate the two arms of hinges,
Drill through and replace the hinge rivet with a removable bolt with nylock nut
Weld the hood side of hinge to hood.
If hood has to be removed in future, undo bolt and separate at hinge.
Crazy, eh?
Thanks for other more sensible ideas than this hare brained scheme.
