What does any one know about the following

Morgan, 2005, with Ford v6?

Were these imported into the US?
Are they Calif. legal?

What price range.

Thank you

They use the Ford Duratec 3.0 V6 and are called "Roadsters". They were priced around $80,000 or so new I think. They should have no problem with California legality as the engine is already propelling several other Ford sedans and minivans around the state. The Morgan Roadster also uses OBD-II (as does the Aero8 and the last of the Rover V8 powered cars).

The V6's are a wee bit lighter and are able to be placed a little further back in the chassis than the V8's. They also have more torque and hp. The V6's made it into a more responsive and better handling Morgan.

The V6 roadster is arguably the most reliable, responsive Morgan in recent history.

There were only 81 imported into the states. An instant, desireable classic. The last of the +8's were plqgued with quality control issues. You will have issues with the V6, as we are talking about a modern electrical system installed by third generation lucas specialists, but not nearly as many issues as with the rover systems.

The engine is a duratec, yes, but derived from Ford variants. You will be able to serivce it here, but only by a ford mechanic willing to think with a british accent on occasion.

If you want a modern Morgan, this is the one to buy in many enthusiast's opinion.

Re: Morgan 6 cyc Ford 2005 PURCHASED

WELL HERE IT IS.
Purchased by someone I work with in the Entertainment Business.

I drove it around the block. It is fast. I do not think it would ride or handle better than my 1974 TR6....

Re: Morgan 6 cyc Ford 2005 PURCHASED

Jeff
Purchase of the Morgan was partly because HE liked the
way people looked at it: "more people will look at this Morgan than a Ferrari in Los Angeles". He did not think
the same about a TR...
I do not think he is interested in the Forum. I might pass on to him some of all your comments though.

I think the car has some issues: looks the the Air Conditioner condensor is horizional right behind the front bumper, not protected....etc.

But what about all the safety stuff and smog, how did they certify only 81 cars?

<laugh> at a Jag dealer, actually. I'm pretty sure the powerplant is close to the European Mondeo mill used in the Ford-powered jags.

Of course there may be a specialist in Philly ,too.

Handle better? C'mon, the suspension design is the best technology available in 1908!!!!! They do handle reasonably well when tweaked, tho'

Ride? RIDE????? A morgan may ride better than a 4x8 sheet of plywood, perhaps.

Morgans are barbaric. Thats kind of the appeal..... No place for computer controlled fuel injection and DIS IMHO, but who am I to say so?

Smog - they used the Ford Mondeo engine (Jaguar) and piggybacked on its smog certification

Safety - they were only able to certify 81 cars because that's how many airbags they had left on the shelf. No more replacement airbags for any north america spec Morgan. (euro spec cars don't have 'em, and Morgan has exited the NA market for traditional cars)

Crash testing - you don't want to know.....

Waaaait a minute.... Are you sure that's a pic of an '05 roadster?

I thought the mirror heads should be round. Those bumpers are an old style. The grille should have a mesh backing (hard to see in the picture). Possible Morgan was purging some old parts for us North American yanks. Regardless, it's a beauty. Love the cream welt around the wings. Nice touch.

Here's a picture of a used car, I think a 2005 taken off the Morgan website.

Easy.... Don't panic! I merely wondered if the posted pic was a "sample picture" and not really a picture of the exact car.

Regarding the variations, it really is VERY possible that MMC used the early 4/4 bumpers, yadda. happens all the time. I could simply be wrong about my "shoulda's", too. Happens all the time as well. Not like I have 10 (V6 roadsters, anyway) parked in my shop...

FWIW, Vin should be H00xxx (i.e., H00250) Usually the vin is stamped on the crossmember just in front of the right hand seat.

Additionally, if it didn't come with the car - a build history is available for (almost) every Morgan from the factory for a nominal fee. Well worth it, if the owner doesn't have one. Photos of the build MAY be available, too.

One 2005 Morgan V6 Roadster just cam up for grabs - the only available such Morgan that I know of currently for sale, call me! 415-433-1344 Ask for Bill Fink. Gorgeous metallic green with tan interior, fully loaded and low low mileage. Owner passed away, sadly missed out on many years of driving this fantastic Morgan.
