Thanks, Patrick. Nice looking cars. Guess I was hibernating when these things hit the market, as I was not aware of them.

I don't believe there was an OHC Triumph engine, was there?

I agree.

I also can't think of a 4 cyl 1600cc one either, the only 1600 was the early vitesse, and that was a 6.

Th only possible would be Triumph Acclaim, which used a Honda engine - could be that???

I couldn't work out from the photo what it was,

Yup, I've seen one before...

When I lived in Ontario a collector brought one into Canada from Britain, he was reasonably active at car shows and I saw it a number of times... It always attracted attention at a show, and I thought it was a pleasant design...

So the website for the owners club claims the first one was built in 1979 with an Alfa powerplant and the seller has been confused by someone and thinks he has a '73 that is Triumph powered. The beauty of semi-kit cars. They are a neat design and with the right components could be a real blast.

Yup... I believe it was primarily a 1980's production from what the guy in Ontario told me... This one is probably 1973 title to allow it into the United States at some point in time

You have both obviously forgotten the SOHC TR7 engine. Though it was 2000cc. Stretching back a bit further and possibly a bit less well known would be the twin overhead cam racing engine known as the "Sabrina Engine". Which a detuned version almost made it into the TR4 but was deemed to be too expensive to produce. Both are completely Triumph engines, though neither are in that particular car.

I think it's interesting that the seller put up 18 pictures of the car, 9 of which show the front grille, 11 showing the front fenders, and only one where the engine is just barely visible.

I guess he's very interested in the looks of the car, and not really interested in the mechanicals.

The TR7 engine was an 1854 in the Dolomite, though called an 1800. It was also available as a 16V in the Sprint

I meant an OHC engine in '73 - I didn't think there was one. But the Dolly had been anounced by then. Anyway, I expect it's a pushrod OHV 4 or 6 (maybe).
The looks of the Marlin (based on the 1750 Alfa Romeo) are among its outstanding features.

Hi, I think from the best I can see in the photo it is a
British Leyland O-Series engine (link below)

Tony

You may well be right there! Well spotted. So the adveretiser was wrong in that it isn't Triumph, and it isn't 1600, as the O was 1.7 or 2.0.

I wonder if he's saying '73 becasue that's the year of the donor car, Spitfire is I think most likely then...
