Can anyone identify this vintage car?

I’m trying to put together photos of cars I’ve known, I remember my dad owning one in the early 60s but I cannot identify it or find a picture of anything like it, no matter what I search on in Google images. It’s an early memory but I clearly recall it being black with a sloping back and the rear lights were on the end of stalk-like structures. The stalks were quite long and a few inches thick, they looked quite odd as though they might break off if you sat on them. I would think it was probably made in the 1940s or 50s, most likely in the UK but not sure about that. I don’t remember anything else except strangely, that the registration number was NHX 651.
Any ideas please?

Thanks for the suggestion JPSmit but it wasn’t that old and I guess I should have explained that the light stalks stuck out horizontally from the back, probably because of the slope. It did look strange.

I guess so, I’m even beginning to suspect that it may have been a one-off prototype but it couldn’t have been.

Thanks NutmegCT but dad didn’t have an American LHD car. The unusual features were the black (body coloured) stalks at the back that looked more like snail’s antennae, long and narrow (several inches long as I remember but I was only about 4 years old) with the red lamp lenses on the end. I couldn’t have dreamt it as my older brother clearly remembers it as well and the registration number NHX 651.

Thanks Restorer, yes it will have definitely been scrapped a long time ago but Middlesex sounds about right. I looked at the Ford Pilot but it didn’t look familiar and it didn’t have the rear light stalks. As I remember they were about 8 inches long but I was only 3 or 4 years old.

Yes, they look quite normal Restorer but these were much longer, they extended straight out at the back and looked quite strange. With the lack of any photos or records I’m thinking it must have been something quite rare. I have a very vague recollection of overhearing someone say it was supposed to have had some connection with royalty or the aristocracy.

try this link for all cars on British roads 1960's, you sure of the description as i don't know of any 60's cars that had a rear lights not set in, maybe your dad had the car in the 60's but was a late 40's 50's car like a triumph roadster.
