TR6 Installing new ignition switch

So I bought a NEW ignition switch at the end of October. I put my Triumph away at the beginning of November and because of the bad winter have not had the opportunity to install the switch.
Yesterday was the day... I pulled the old switch and installed the new one. Everything went smoothly until I went to plug the new switch into the wiring harness; the pins on the male end of the new plug are a much larger diameter than the holes in the existing female end in the car :grumpy:
Of course I could cut the plug off of the old switch and solder it on, but I will call the supplier tomorrow to see what's up.
Two steps forward, one step back.

ISTR there are different versions of the switch, depending on year. The factory manual has a good breakdown of the differences. Spitballing here, i wonder if you can possibly swap the back halves of the switches, if they are similar. I think there is a very tiny phillips head screw holding the switch together...

Good suggestion Kevin but I rather not take the switch completely apart. Of course warranties will be voided whichever way I proceed so I want to hear what the vendor has to say.

By the way... The small phillips screw holds the switch in the key lock assembly. To take the back of the switch off requires bending tabs back and usually they break when bending them back when reinstalling.

Just spoke to the supplier and they told me to cut off the connector and solder the old one on. They said they would honor their warranty. I can't imagine I'm the only who encountered the problem with this part.

So let me get this right.............. the vendor supplies a part that doesn't fit the car it's supposed to fit and their answer is to cut it apart and resolder it?! Let's see..... VB's order takers wouldn't know what solder meant and would tell you to return it. Moss would want it back to investigate why it didn't fit......... so that leaves ???

That bit of deduction reminds me of Sherlock Holmes, Bobby.

........ so that leaves ???
Actually I've been happy with the service and quality of this supplier on previous orders.
I don't think naming the vendor on a public forum serves any useful purpose.
