How would you treat this seat frame?

I am finally begining to tackle the interior on the B

Just stripped down one of the seats and there is a fair amount of surface rust on the frame.

Is it necessary to have them sand blasted or are there other alternatives.

You don't have to sand blast, but it's the easiest and most thorough. I had mine blasted and powder coated and will never have to do it again. Ever.

You can sand them down by hand and spray with rust converter, then top coat. Honestly, the seat frames should see little abuse from weather.

Sand blast and paint or powder coat. Done finished for ever.

I agree with all above. However, the "starter kit" from POR will have enough material to do more than a couple of seat frames and will cost you about $20. I suspect you'll pay more for powder painting.

OK,
I found a place fairly local that does the blasting and coating, so here is my silly question.

How far apart should i be taking the frame?

I have removed the "back" from the "bottom" but the gears for reclining are still semi coverd.

Should this be taken apart before blasting?
(careful of your answer, if you say yes I will come back with how /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )

Yes. Otherwise powder coat will get into the gears and get baked on. If there is any plastic in there, get it out or it will melt. Same goes for anything with solder.

Sorry, can't help with how. I've never owned a later model MGB.

Do a web search for electro derusting. You derust in a bath using DC voltage. If you sand or media blast it you will end up with abrasive inside the seat frames that you cannot get out. I would seperate the top from the bottom but go no further

i have removed the top from bottom, removed the 2 springs, and removed the big metal doohickey that sits in the large part of the frame (bottom rear...hmm, that sounds redundant /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )

everything should go back nicely, except for said metal doohickey. that will be a wrestling match.
