Talked to 2 of my customers today. 1 is mainly a collision shop but also does restorations. His dad built dozens of rods over the years and owned a TR3. The other is a restoration shop. First like to mention that both said no epoxy products over acid based products. The first shop said he has used phosphoric acid. Wasn't sold on it. The brand he used started with a O. he tried to find some for me but couldn't. He said to use a sacrifice primer and sand it all off when your done. The restoration shop told me he didn't have much luck with the acid and to just leave the panel be. After 5 hours there is enough rust on the panel even if you cant't see it that the surface needs to be sanded cleaned then primed. He also said primers are expensive so to keep reapplying and sanding off is a waist of money. His guys know to only expose what they are working on then clean the area up by spot blasting, grinding or sanding. Then strip the entire panel then epoxy prime it. Again filler goes over the epoxy primer. Both said to stay within the same paint line all the way thru the project.
