Dimming rear view mirror??

Well things on here seem a little slow and the windshield stay rod post got me thinking.

What methods are used to dim the rear view mirror out there??

I use a old cap with a mesh top. Just hang it over the mirror when I can't stand it anymore. I'm sure there are some other
ideas for us guys with the early cars. I've seen a few of the aftermarket mirrors that were sold 'in the day' but am not lucky enough to have one.

Kurt.

Get a later model mirror from a 1500 car?
The one in my MK2 is dash mounted and I can't see a heck of a lot with it anyway.
In my BugMidgSun I have the 1500 mirror so it adjusts for night time driving.
I have 4 mirrors and even on dark rainy mornings like today I can't see as well as I'd like. We're having a bit of a storm up here this week.

Will the 1500 mirror mount on the stay rod like the early one???

This is listed as a 72 - 80 mirror:

I see, are you asking if it will clamp to the rod? No.
Could you maybe get one and replace the mounting with the earlier type that clamps to the rod? I think so, I've seen something of your capabilities...

But for a few extra quid he'd sell you one of these.

What an excellent idea Rut. I bet Kim can even come up with a dispenser.

Great idea indeed ... or just get that nagging oil-leak to suddenly take over.

A friend once had an old VW that had a halogen backup light with a hand switch to turn it on & off. When cars would tailgate with their high beams on (common in Germany) turning the backup light on would often encourage then to go around!

When I did SCCA rallys, we always had an extra driving light on the back bumper.

Good for backing up on dark roads, but we also called them "<span style="font-style: italic">Revenge Lights</span>" for obvious reasons.

A ~Super Oscar~ worked great for this.

On my old Land Cruiser I installed a
tractor flood light as the backup light.
Manual switch on dash. Red lockout cover.
If that thing went off on a highway...
yikes!
The lockout switches always get questioned.
I tell 'em it's for the rocket launchers and stuff.
