TR2/3/3A Confirmed - both rockers on the TR3 are toast

Sigh, I was preparing myself for this moment but actually seeing it still was not the highlight of my day so far.

The first section tested on the passenger side front gives way to this;

In full daylight;

On my back, looking up at the drivers side;

Funny thing was that the prep work to hide this was actually very high quality, that is they managed to make the rocker look solid and all of one piece.

Yeah, you are right Paul. At least this makes needing to repaint the engine bay an easier decision. This sort of patina isn't worth keeping. LOL.

Looks like there already was a patch on your drivers side rockers. Maybe since they did not do the sills the rust and water entry just kept on advancing. One side at a time and it is time to brace up that car. Although replacement of the rockers & sills needs to be done don't exclude painting only the new patches and leaving the old paint intact.

Paul - would you replace the floors for some structure or do the rockers need to be done first.

Despite this rot she has great door gaps which I, obviously, don't want to lose.

I'm going to take all the paint off at this point - I'm sure there is other just waiting to be found.

Since your floor is out. I would brace, then replace the sill and the rocker and then put in the new floor. Grind off the paint from rocker to see how bad they are as new rockers do not have the slight curve of the old rockers. Give Dan (Tinman58) an email as he has just done this on the rear ended TR3a.
