TR6 Anybody interested in a TR6 in boxes in MA?

Somebody approached me today about one at his friends house who "just wants it out of the garage" and I told him that my wife would terminate my life force instantly if I brought home another stray, but that I'd pass it along.

Don't know too much about it yet, still getting details, but it's a 73 TR6, drive train still in car, other stuff in boxes. Don't yet know exactly where it is, but I'm assuming it's somewhere East of Worcester and West of Framingham. Guy would take "less than $1K" for it.

Anyway, if this is even remotely of interest to anybody, I can get more details about it such as body condition, etc.

Jeremy...Its funny how these things come along...at the worst possible times! Just yesterday I had a man hit me up with a plea for help. He was trying to help a lady unload two TR6's!
One is a basket and one is close to being a runner! Could be a deal there I thought! But while dressing this AM the wife asks about a friends restoration project. After giving her the update she replies..."Wow am I glad we don't have any of those parts bills hitting us right now!" Probably will share the lead with a friend who has been looking for a runner...and see if he make be interested...or may try and put on my best salesmans hat and make a pitch at home (silly boy!) Lol, sounds like you dodged a bullet there.

Yeah, my immediate reaction was, "Oooo, gimme, gimme!" But then I realized (as I do about eight times a week while surfing eBay) I have no time, no space, and no money for another project, and a wonderful wife to remind me of this so I don't do something stupid!

Interested yes, but not too likely to scrounge up enough spare change to purchase. I've almost got 2 TR6s worth of parts in my garage right now from my current TR6 restoration, i'm sure if i picked up a project car i'd be able to get 2 well sorted out and driveable TR6s, but I really need to focus on the one i'm in the midst of right now before worrying about a 2nd !

Last Friday morning, I woke up and checked my email as usual. Since it was April Fool's Day, my wife took the bait when I said "Wow I didn't think that I'd win the auction, I thought someone would outbid me."

Well once in a while I'll bid on a really expensive or exotic car knowing that my bid would never be close to the selling price. But it's fun to bid.

So my wife (who is also an enthusiast) replied "What???"
"A race car ..."
"Race car how much?" "Where is it?"(she misses our formula car so any race car gets her attention but really, she knows how much I love old cars and that I sometimes act on inpulse.)
"$2500, Texas. $hit"
"What? Texas?"
I pause then "April Fool!" Then we both laughed.

I might be able to get past the $1000 TR6 if my 4A was near completed - which was also purchased in boxes, but in 1997. But if I see something cool or exotic, I'll still bid.

And that is exactly how I ended up with my 308. Got it for a steal! ... Boy has that dang thing now beaten my wallet to a pulp. I've promised myself Triumphs only from now on. Ok, maybe an MG, or a Healey if I find a good deal on a Bugeye. Oh, and I've always liked the Volvo P1800.

C'mon Justin. You know if you don't buy this, it will eat at you for the rest of your life. We'll take my truck and trailer and go get it. Use the parts you want and sell off the rest. No way you can loose on this. Do it. Doo itt!!!

Lol =D If you know anyone who wants to buy some blacksmithing equipment, i've got a whole bunch for sale or trade (cutting down to just the stuff that I use, rather than a fully stocked shop with multiple working stations heh) then I'd be able to use the $ for something like that =) Heck just this last weekend I picked up a spare TR6 tub that I drove across CT for =D 100 bucks for a tub + quarter panel fenders, with rust problems, but complete. Rented a uhaul trailer to get it, i dont own my own trailer =P

I think that with a little more encouragement you can become a hoarder of TR6 parts that can rival my TR8 collection. You just need a bigger garage, basement, attic, tent and friends with garages.

A little more info received:

"The body was originally yellow was repainted red (and not very well) some rust, no repair work has been undertaken, the frame has one small area of concern (perforation).

Never been in an accident and straight, located in Hudson"

Lots of work, but restorable. The lady that I bought my car from left it outside with the top down for three years to (as she said) "fix my husband... it's his car". They had gone through a baaaaad divorce. With that said, mine looked close to this one.

6's are coming out of the woodwork right now. I bought a 71 last week that had been sitting for 10 years. Bunch of new parts. One rusty rocker but the rest is very good. Then a guy I know called from FL called and wanted to sell me a 69 that looked pretty solid. I did past on that one.

I've been thinking lately about the possibility of buying a beat up TR6 to enjoy the restoration, as I just don't seem to be happy unless at least one of my cars is a mess... but it would require selling the TR3 or Spit, and I just can't bring myself to even consider that!

I'm over the disease. I'm not completely cured, but I know enough now to pass on any parts offers until my basement is cleaned out of the last 20 years of accumulated purchases.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it......
