MGB-GT Any gotchas when remove/replace rear axle?

So I'm going to start the dismantling process on Mille GT this weekend. Took a quick look under the car last night and it does look like the rear suspension has been gone through fairly recently -- for the most part all the bolts look new and some of the bits still have Moss tags on them. I have some hope it will all come apart reasonably smoothly.

I've never pulled a MGB rear axle. Looks like the exhaust comes off, then the drive shaft, then disconnect the shock arms, brake hose, handbrake cable. Pull the leaf springs at both ends and it all drops out as a unit. Correct?

If nothing else I'll be able to clean up the fuel pump mounting and lines while the axle is out of the way.

Sounds like you have it covered. Not sure the handbrake cables are the same length - may want to research that.

I do believe that the handbrake cables are different lengths, plan to pick up the correct one.

Handbrake cable is different. You should be able to just loosen the front spring mounting bolts and leave 'em in place to remove the axle. The four saddle U-bolts hold the damper plates on the springs' underside, so you may be able to leave the dampers/links/plates on the chassis by just loosening the nuts on the links at the springs.

Thanks, Doc. I'll keep that in mind when I dig into this. Hoping to get some time to work on it either this afternoon or tomorrow.
