Installing Furflex trim?

So, pretty cool! I met a guy through the local club that is building a BE. He and I got together over the weekend and checked out each-others' cars. Kind of nice to see another one in person for a change!!... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Anyway, I noticed he had the same Furflex door trip ready to install that I do. I asked how in the world one is supposed to install it? He replied, "I was going to ask you the same thing." I told him about the forum and hopefully he will get on here soon!! Has anyone used this before? How do you install this stuff? We both got it through VB.

I think the original was held in place by clips.

This stuff seems like it needs to be cut or something? I won't cut until I figure it out!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

So there are clips that hold this stuff on? I looked through VB's catalogue and can't find the clips for this stuff. Anyone?

If you are talking about the trim that surrounds the door (door seal) it should just be a press fit (there should be built-in clips inside the channel I believe)!

The new style may have the clips, but I think the original stuff was like the old GM weather stripping.

If you are talking about the seal on the top of the door which seals against the window, I used a tool made to unsnap vinyl siding from the piece above it. It is a tool about 3/4" wide, with the handle angled and the working end bent into a hook. I set the clip in the hook, inserted it through the slot for the window and then lifted the clip into place. I think I may have also used a bit of double sided tape to stick the clip to the tool so it would not fall off as I was sliding it into place. I bought my tool at a local siding supplier when I built my house, but the home improvement stores may have it. It should only cost a few dollars.

Thanks,
Jeff

I just installed new furflex lat week (purchased from a vendor who advertises in the back of Autin Healey magazine). They're a press on fit. I first pressed them on by hand and then went back with a small hammer and a thin piece of wood and tapped it on more firmly. No cutting was required and it made it around the curves. Finally, a drop of super glue at the top edge where it ends keeps it from peeling off

I thought that it should be pressed on. The stuff that I got doesn't seem to be able to press on. I need to call VB and find out what is going on????

You may need to run a pen-knife through the slot to open it up slightly!
