One of the guys at work has a Midget with the 1500cc engine. I hear that it is the same as the Spit 1500cc. He's been having trouble with the ZS carb. The first time he had a problem, he bought a rebuild kit from VB, and everything was OK for awhile (a couple of months). The he started haveing problems again. He took the carb apart and notcied that the diaphragm was sort of swelled out of shape. He replaced the diaphragm and everything was OK again, good response and power. A month or so later, same thing, no response, no power. Another diaphragm, and everything was again OK. All the parts came from VB.

What may be causing this?? Or is it a problem with the parts (diaphragms) themselves?? Any experience with this??

I told him to stuff an SU on there and forget about it! :yesnod:

Could the engine have been backfiring through the carb, causing gas to coat the diaphragm? I would think gasoline would eat up diaphragms quickly.
I have never been a fan of VB rubber products. He may want to try a different supplier.

Call ~This Guy~ .

He's even in NY and may not be too far from you.
Joe is basically the King of Brit-carbs.
And it might be a supplier problem. If it is, Joe will know where to get a "good" one.

By the way, I got tired of the ZS carb on my 1500 car (when it was on the street) so I switched to a 1-1/2" SU...worked great!

Thanks guys. I guess it's time to call Joe.

Yup-yup. And get the kit: The O-ring at the needle base is likely to be in bad shape too. "Might as well" do a thorough job of it.

Cheap Chinese mfg diaphrams.Buy from Moss, but ANYWHERE BUT VB.The good diaphrams are made of "Neoprene" & NOT "BUTYL"
rubber which will act as you described.,Your confidence rests with your suppliers.
