Zeinith-Stromberg Carb K+N Air Filters

There are differing opinions on installing the K&Ns over the original airbox setup. On some Spits and GT6s with dual carbs, the airbox had hoses that vented to the front of the radiator where "cold" air was available to the carbs. Colder air = more horsepower/better combustion.

The engine bay of these cars can become pretty hot. The K&N setup and other aftermarket setups suck air directly from one of the hottest areas in the engine bay, just above the exhaust manifold. Also, the K&Ns provide a different airflow rate and speed to the carbs than the original setup.

So, do you need to adjust the needles with K&Ns? Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Some folks say adjustments ARE needed. Others say no.

I'd like to believe that the Triumph engineers knew what they were doing with the "cold air" setup.

My humble advice: keep the original setup, especially if your engine is stock. It looks "correct" and allows the engine to function as it was designed to do.

Now that I think about it, I'mm pretty sure you can get a K&N element that is the same size as a stock paper filter. That way you can install them in the original air box.
My GT6 has regular K&N filters on it, and no needle adjustments were necessary.

Yup, I have a GT6 airbox with 2 K&N's with the hoses on the Sports 6, I didnt change the springs either.

The car. I saw my first Sports Six at the Richmond VTR show last month and fell in love with it. It was Jim Williams' jet black convertible, I think it's been on sale on EBay a couple of times for $28K.

A mostly forgotten Triumph in the U.S. since not many were imported. Our loss!
