Has anyone else experienced slow-down of YouTube videos recently?

They used to start immediately for me, regardless of source. Played all the way through, regardless of length.

About two weeks ago I noticed the videos would show, but then immediately freeze, with the spinning "loading" circle. Then start up, play about five seconds, then freeze again with the spinning circle.

The "net neutrality" rules haven't ended yet, so I'm wondering what's causing the problem. Neighbor has the same problem with YT. Probably related, but HD TV service here (same Charter/Spectrum ISP) often freezes or gets "choppy" with audio dropout at various times of the day, but that's been going on for over a year.

Your thoughts?

Thanks.
Tom M.

Tom I tried a few of my YT videos, and had no problems. I watched a few minutes of a slide show I have posted, and then all of https://youtu.be/MHP4bnkbhxM which is a 50 second HD clip of a few features on my slot car track.

The problem may not be at YouTube.

Thanks gents. Seems to be pointing to Charter/Spectrum, as problems exist on the Web as well as the TV data.

For the last several days I've done a tracert to various points. Always get a "time out" at the first step beyond my home router, but ok after that step.

Internet speed tests are hovering around 2.5 mbps download. That's pitiful!

they've killed my ability to view. No player in your browser (HTML5), but they have a test page and it's all there, so go figure.

No problems here Tom, U Tube works fine. :encouragement: PJ

Thanks Paul. Just power cycled the modem and wireless router. Internet is back to normal (20mbps d/o) again. Still have the TV problems however, despite power cycling and resetting the cable box.

Have the Spectrum router here configured as a bridge, no WiFi broadcast, direct Cat-5 into a firewall box. Every machine inside seems to run YT with no issue. As for the intermittent pixelated TV with stops and gaps, that's Spectrum. I swear they "choke" bandwidth and when it's peak user time the demand outstrips available b'width. Had a "tech" come here, he blamed it on a splitter. Told 'im he was full of **it, the FiOs/Verizon signal worked flawlessly and I've made no changes in the system beyond changing providers. No satisfaction, no better solution than to go back to Verizon.

All you have to do is Google "Charter Spectrum Compression" and you'll see the blockiness and other problems go back over ten years.

As the providers try to cram more stations into our monthly service, the compression increases. More choices to watch! But lower picture quality on each choice.

Tech develops better and better TV systems - but unless you use direct OTA service, your provider (cable, net, satellite, etc.) compresses the signal more and more. So the new 4K and 8K TV systems look great in the store - but can become almost standard definition by the time you watch them at home.

and this morning with NO reboots or ANY updates it all works fine.
