Thanks for posting all the pictures of your car restoration. The light blue paint looks really, really good. I also like the blue seat cushion color. I am really interested in seeing pictures of interior and car when finished. Really nice TR4 you have. Great job with the restoration.

Well, I got the passenger seat done. Took most of the day. Hopefully the piping will straighten out some over time. Thanks so much to Steve and ghawk for the photos.

No problem Mink! Those look great! I'm sure they'll straighten out as you sit in them and the piping loosens up a little. Probably still stiff from being inside of a box. Are yours leather or vinyl? I'm curious as to whether or not the kits supplied are full leather or just leather fronts and vinyl sides and backs like OE. My car had the leather option so I'll be going that route.

These are leather on the seat surfaces but vinyl on the sides as original. I got them from TRF, but they are actually made by Newton Commercial in the UK.

As I mentioned earlier, I really, really like the blue color used.

By the way - great job on doing the seats. Turned out really well. Also really nice job on the overall restoration.

I have been busy, but still somehow thinking about TR's. Just a bit of history that might already been mentioned. Back during the previous economic uptick around the year 2000, there was an early serial number TR4 in light blue that sold at auction for over $100K. Their was an article about it in Autoweek. The comments in the article highlighted what happens when 2 bidders with lots of money can do to drive up the price. It also mentioned that expect to see a number of other TR4 owners listing their car for $50K.....which actually did happen.

I really like the early TR4's with the TR3 gauges and domed glass. I also really like the light blue paint color. Your project progress is really enjoyable to see. Thanks again for sharing your pictures.
 
Got both seats done and installed in the car. On to the door assembly.

Gorgeous. Once you're done, I may just have to come up and take a look. Definitely gives me an itch to get mine done. Dropped a deposit for body work last week to the shop to get started. They cost a bit more, but I know it will be done right and I unfortunately don't have the painting skills or the space to do it in.
 
Spent today assembling the doors. First I used the excellent how-to at https://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/WindowChannel.htm to refurbish my window channels for a whopping $10 instead of spending $500 to replace them. Then I fabricated a couple of tools to install the window scraper clips. I ended up making two of them - one for the outer scraper (the one with the smaller bend) and one for the inner felts. The outer scrapers were a breeze with this tool. I used the Glue Dots pictured to hold the clips in the tool while I installed the clips. Worked great.

The inner felts were much more of a pain for me. On the first door I tried installing the clips on the door then snapping the felt into them. On the second door I tried installing the clips on the felt first. Neither way was much fun but I got it done. Not sure how you guys do it.

I also pulled the front brake pads and applied some anti-squeal to the backs of them to see if I could cut down on the noise from the brakes. Fingers crossed.

I installed the door panels today. I stated with a plastic vapor barrier inside the doors. I know, it's not how Triumph did it, but it'll work. The sheeting is held in place with Gorilla tape and weatherstrip adhesive. Next, I painted the inside of the door panels with an exterior house paint to give the bare masonite some protection and finally popped them onto the doors. I guess this more or less finishes the interior. A bit of an improvement from last year.

Your TR4 is really looking great. Is this a project that you keep and enjoy or do you move on to the next project?

Funny you should ask. My wife just commented how great it looked and then asked me what I was going to do next. I told her I guess I was going to have to find another car...

But I definitely plan to hang on to this one for a while. It's been way too much work not to enjoy it.

Quick question...on your center dash support piece, did you have that re-sprayed or powder coated? Mine is pretty beat up and chipped and am thinking I may clean it up. If I can't find something that matches I may just leave it as is. Thanks
 
Oh nice...thanks Mink! Have any close up pics of your center support? I'm guessing you stripped all the old stuff off?

Here you go. The old stuff sands right off but you could just as easily sandblast it.
