TR4/4A Your thoughts/value of this TR4

So I'm getting ready to move on to reupholstering the seats and I'm having trouble finding a good reference for the work. I have all new seat covers and pads from TRF as well as new tacking strips (with rivets and nails). I've also had the seat frames blasted and powder coated. Unfortunately my seats had been recovered at some point so I don't really have a good reference for what it's supposed to look like. I'm primarily concerned with how to finish the edges of the seat base as well as how to finish the seat backs.

I know my seats have a lot more in common with TR3 seats than anything else. Can anyone help me with some reference photos or threads? I have done a LOT of searching but have not really found what I need.
 
I have a 62 TR4 with "TR3" style seats. The seats were restored "recovered" with the leather seat kit from Moss. Are there any particular reference photo views you are most interested in? I can take a few pics and post.

OK - Did some more research.

Check out the photo from the Moss Catalog. If you check their on line catalog, it shows that both the TR3A and TR4 up to CT15273 used the same seat pattern material. In the attached picture, this is seat "B". My car is serial # CT16758 and the picture is with the seat "C" pattern.

Thanks Steve. My car is CT9796L so the same seats as yours. I discovered that the pad kit came with a really good instruction sheet, so I'm set there. What I primarily need is to see how the metal seat bases get covered around their perimeter with vinyl and also how the bottoms of the seat backs are finished (both on the hinged and non-hinged sides.

OK - So if I take some pictures of the back of the seats, side view, and pictures of the seat back and bottom with the seat cushion removed, are these the pictures and views you want to see? Let me know and I can take some pictures and post.

FYI - for both cars I took the seats and kits to be done here locally in Nor Cal.

It means two things. The quality of the results I feel are good. And I can not provide any guidance on the process.

For my cars, the seat back padding was in good shape and was reused. For the seat bottom cusions, I purchased the Moss padding kid. I thought the TRF seat padding was better and closer to the original, but there was also a price difference.

Just thinking some more on the process. The actual metal seat "frames" were rusty, and also had some tears with required some minor welding to fix. I also replaced the wood strips used to tak on and secure the seat covers before having the rest done.
 
Mink...I can look at my seats tonight. I know the tops were recovered, but not sure about the bases. Those MIGHT be original.

Yes, that would be extremely helpful. The seats have been repaired and powder coated and I have new wooden tack strips ready to go. I just need some good reference pics for how to finish the bottom of the seat backs and the seat frames themselves. The cushions seem pretty straightforward.

My original leather is still on the seats. Not sure on the seat backs, but pretty sure they are. Here is a pic I took of a seat just to see what was underneath. Obviously you won't be able to see anything, but...the original stuff is there. They just used upholstery hooks on the springs to fit the seat covers.
 
OK - I took pictures and posted on my Flickr account. The album reference is TR4 Seat (16 pictures) though it looks like only 12 imported.

I did include in each picture description - which seat (driver or passenger) and picture view info.

Please also note that if you go to "photostream" there are more pictures to view vs. the TR4 Seat "album". The importing of the pictures had to be redone so some of the picture description info was lost. Hope these help. Let me know if you have any questions.

Steve, thanks. Those are really great. If I could bother you for one or two more - could you show the seats from the sides? I want to see how the piping is finished as it reaches the bottom of the seat back.
 
Got the cushions done today, hope to start on the backs and/or bases tomorrow. Still looking to see how to finish the piping at the bottom of both the folding seat back as well as the rigid side.

Can't help you with the front edge wrap, as I believe my grandpa tried to recover them himself. With that said, he left the original leather/vinyl covers on and just nailed and clipped on the non-period correct covers. I've attached some pictures, but I also have a Flickr account you can check out of more pictures I took today as I took my seats apart. Not sure if any of these will help. Keep in mind my grandpa trimmed off most of the white piping before putting the other covers on.

OK - Just logged back on. I was actually out in the garage today trying to pound out a few dents in the TR3 fender. I can get the pictures to you tomorrow morning if this works.

Thanks for posting all the pictures of your car restoration. The light blue paint looks really, really good. I also like the blue seat cushion color. I am really interested in seeing pictures of interior and car when finished. Really nice TR4 you have. Great job with the restoration.
