What is up with Fire ants.
Short of going Manhattan Project on em, how do I get rid of them?

If you're surrounded by them... you won't. When we moved to a new subdivision, they were everywhere. Eventually, with all the neighbors waging the war, they gave up. Haven't seen any in my yard in years.

Two words: Boric Acid. Check USDA website for info.

Been doing some checking, saw that

Interesting approach is Splenda

If it's killing us...it has to kill them

I'd stick with the boric acid.

Don,

The best product I have found to eliminate fire ants is Armored. You should be able to find it at Home Depot or Lowes. Simply sprinkle Armored around the ant hill at dusk and the fire ants are gone in the morning.

Sad to hear the fire ants are in Charleston now. We have been dealing with them in the Upstate SC for a while now...

Hehehehe, greenhorn.

That's easy, you'll need two things.

1) 5 gallons gas
2) a book of matches.

Directions:

1.)Douse home thoroughly with gas, light match and toss on house.

2.) File claim and move back up north. :jester:

I pour gas(especially old), old motor oil, yourin8 on 'em dependin' what's currently available.

Sometimes flip an old battery over the pile too.

I do 'specially like stririn' 'em up, douse 'em with gas and light 'em off.

They don't call 'em fa'r aunts fer nuthin' !

When we moved down to San Diego last summer we were inundated with regular ants too.
We tried every remedy we could find but the only thing that we found that (finally) worked was we mixed a bunch of boric acid (dry powder from the "Dollar store") with some strawberry jam and put it in a jar lid on the counter.
Next morning there were LOTS of ants in the area and 2 days later there were none and has been like that for about 6 months now.
Cheap and easy

Go get'em don...
