You guys think you have problems,.................

I have a terrible problem. I sat in a 67 E type Jag on Saturday, and, now I have a big problem. I want one, and frankly, know of only one reason I should not have one. And, I don't think it is fair that Basil has one and I don't. I mean, how can he justify that? Wonder if anyone would want to trade a "driver",Series 1 Roadster, for a totally restored TR6? I bet Basil feels guilty about his having an E type and me not having one? If you guys took up a collection and bought me an E type, you wouldn't have to put up with me anymore, doesn't that sound attactive?

Hi SearcherMan,

Its pretty addicting when you sit inside that "COCKPIT" of an E-Type; Is`nt it!!

I`ve had 4 of them & I will have another (If the prices come down)? Watching Barrett-Jackson this weekend shocked me!

A `61 E-Type Rdstr. came up & sold for $66K. It would have normally sold for over $100K last yr. To think; I "HAD" a `61 Rdstr just a couple of yrs ago & sold her to gent in Rome, Italy for $36K (Big Mistake). I had the "190th" car built (Side Bonnet locks, Welded Louvre & Flat Floor / VIN 875190).

"COULDA, WOULDA, SHOULDA"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Hunting,

Russ

I am kicking myself in the arse and didn't even own the one you sold.

My dad had an old E-type he bought new ( I assume it was a 66 or 67 because I was born in 66 and I always remember him having it) which he sold for $2000 because it was going to need a new clutch. He then bought a V12 E type which, although awesome, was not too reliable. The guy who bought his 6 later said it was the best car he ever owned! I always cringe when I think of him letting it go for $2000 (even though those were early seventies dollars).

This is how it begins. Just one small 10 minute seating in an E type is too many and a thousand hours of driving one is not enough.

It's also why I look, admire from a far, but NEVER actually touch one of those things.

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

The vintage shop I worked at had a few E-types come through. I've driven a 2+2 with the auto trans (talk about hard shifts!) and a 62 Roadster with a stick. Wonderful cars! really got the "I want it" a flowin... then I looked at the parts catalog! and all the "$I want it$" kinda drained away....
Actually, I think I liked the XK120 a bit better... hmmm... tough to call. Dosen't matter. I can't afford either....

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

I guess I was lucky in the Jaguar department. In 1970 my roommate had a new E-type that I got to drive now and then. In fact he let me drive it home from the dealer in New Orleans to our place in Baton Rouge.
Before that in college I had an XK-120 for about a year(remember that one emmett1010 ?). Ten years later I had an XK-150 roadster.
Of course, I wish I still had at least one of them, but you sure couldn't sling one around a sharp corner like you can a TR6.

Bet you could go to the Jag section and get a picture conjured up.

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

They don't let "US" over there. Wrong side of the tracks en all

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

Tell em you have a friend that owns one.

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

I bought an E Type (Black w/ white convertable top, red leather, chrome wires) when I got back from VietNam. The view down that long bonnet is the best. Great handling, speed, sound and looks to die for. Just a lovely car.
If I'd my druthers though I'd lean twd a XK 120/140 coupe prepped for rallying.

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

As a young teen in the early seventies, I didn't understand what was going on at the time. I'm certain that you and your brothers, and your fathers couldn't either. But thank you for your service.

I attended a Brooks and Dunn/ZZ Topp concert last week. During the Brooks and Dunn song "Only In America", four soldiers marched center stage to the loudest ovation of the evening.

What a difference 35 years makes. Thanks, all of you.

Hi DNK,

The CEO of the Co. I work for lives in Ft. Collins, CO where the Jag is located.

I asked him if there was someway, (Anyway), I can get this E-Type as a "Co. Car"?

No reply as of yet. Would that perhaps mean, "NO"??

LOL,

Russ

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

Hi Ben,

My 1st Jag was a `57 XK140 Rdstr. I bought it about 20yrs ago for $5K. I thought I`d "Died and went to Heaven" when I got her home (Decent Driver Cond). She was very "Nostalgic" but Big & heavy to drive, soft brakes & really tough steering but a heck of a lot of fun.

2yrs later; I sold her & bought my 1st. `67 Series I (My Avatar). The driving sensation was like getting out of a "Mac Truck" and into a "Ferrari".

That was the "Beginning of the End"! Hooked on E-Types ever since then!

Regards,

Russ

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

Here are 3 of my previous E-Types:

The Old English White one is a `67 Series I:

The Burgundy one is a `69 Series II: (Check out the street sign).

The Red one (Most recent) is a `61 Series I (Check out the side bonnet locks, Welded Louvres & Flat Floor - Chassis # 875190). Sold it, (Gave it away), 2yrs ago to a gent in Rome, Italy (BIG,BIG MISTAKE)! You can see one of my `72 TR6 projects lurking in front of the Jag.

Re: You guys think you have problems,.............

2wrench,

Since I`m making myself feel sick; Here`s a pic of my `64 Series I taken last yr. Chassis # 880827. My last E-Type to date. They`ll be another one in my life; "For Sure"!

I just wanted to throw in a pic of my `61 the day I took delv. via Horseless Carriage. Man, That long nose from the front of the car or sitting in the cockpit is just a pic of beauty.

Thats my daughter sitting in the`64.
