Yosemite 500 mile trip

Took a quick pre-holiday road trip to Yosemite. Fantastic weather. Waterfalls were at full flow. If you have been there during spring snow melt you know what it is like--the roar and echoing boom of these huge waterfalls all around the valley. Not to be missed!

The car ran wonderfully well. Smooth at freeway speed. Plenty of power on the hills. Although on the way home last night the quartering headwind near San Louis Reservoir left me feeling a little unsafe at 70 mph. Backed it off a bit there to keep the front end on the ground. But the early evening drive down the mountains and through the foothills was great. I took mostly backroads through the old mining country and then across the great expanse of orchards and farmlands back to the coast.

Best calculation on fuel economy (if there is such a thing anymore) was about 19-20 mpg. Does that sound about right for a BT7? I leaned the carbs a quarter turn on the mixture screw recently. Seems to help on the top end when getting on the freeway.

It was good to get the car out and drive it a on a long trip.

Wow, great pictures. I was there 3 weeks ago in my Healey. How did you get pictures with out a bunch of people in them. We were there the weekend the middle road from Mariposa had a land slide and had to turn around and head in through Oakhurst. The new 120 was closed at Groveland so we ended up on the Old Priest grade which is an 8% grade (down)at lease. We should see how many Healeys we can get there next spring. The Golden Gate Club went last year in Aug and it was VERY crowded and hot. Many over heatings in the traffic. Post when you do something fun and want company.

Brian, beautiful pictures - thanks for sharing. I lived for years in Sacramento and Lodi. Didn't have my Healey then, but always thought driving in the Sierras would be wonderful. Nothing like Yosemite in the Spring! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
