Well all, I took in an abondoned Yorkie yesterday. I wanted to get any info that all may have on them, know some of you have them.

I am a chihuahua guy and have two of them and a cat, all except one was rescued. He is very friendly and small, maybe three lbs, seems old from his teeth.

Boney as can be, stools are soft. Is there something that I need to do before he co-habitats with the others (other then the obvious)? Are teething problems normal? etc.

I would like to keep him and give a better life then he has had for his time left.

What advice do you guys have?

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but good on you for rescueing the poor thing. I am usually not much of an animal person, but we got a chihuahua in august, and it is a pretty cute little bugger.
 
Pat, I have a Yorkie and this is my third. What ever I can do. A bit of cottage cheese, like a teaspoon full with his food will keep his stools firm.

Yorkies and Chihuahua's are both pretty hyper, but they should pretty quickly get things sorted out - if they haven't already - and be buds. The real question is, how is the kitty reacting to the new roomie?

We've got 5 cats right now - 4 rescued, one "liberated" from old neighbors who were gonna take him to the pound when the moved (they probably still think he ran away /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif). Whenever we bring in a new bunkie, there's a pretty definite period of adaptation as the new pecking order is straightened out. They're likely to be pretty miffed at you for awhile.

As for the Yorkie, I presume you're already hooking him up for shots, heartworm checkup, intestinal parasite checkup (stool sample to the doc), fleas, ticks, "well-pup" exam and all that. Neutering is good also, male or female, unless he's too old or infirm for the surgery and recovery period.

The doc should also be able to give you a sense of his age. These little guys can live for quite a while with love and care.

Mine have all been good for 15 years or so.

And yep, they are my bud for sure. They will train you before too long.

It's good to hear that there are still kind people left in the world. Some days, I'm just about to give up on that.

We have 7 cats and a dog. We never meant to have that many. We started out with two cats, one that my parents rescued and one that a co-worker gave me. Then, we were asked to take a pregnant stray cat. Someone else paid for her pre-natal care. She had six kittens. We intended to keep her and one of the kittens. We gave away three of them, and got attached to the other two that were left. They make it a wild time at our house sometimes.

The dog's a beagle that we rescued from the pound. She was sick at the time. She's lazy as all get out, but healthy and happy.

The last cat I picked up beside a busy state highway in Albertville, AL. He was about to get roadkilled, and had a broken leg. Even so, he was determined not to get caught. We fixed the leg and he's grown up to be quite handsome. He's a bit crippled, but can hold his own.

I never set out to be a zookeeper, and sometimes it seems overwhelming. But I'm glad we've been able to help.

My girlfriend LOVES Yorkies.
 
My last, the present one, Yorkie, I got from the national rescue mission for Yorkies.

Her mama had alhimers and could not keep her, she is older but a real sweetheart. She needed a place where she would be loved and cared for till she passed on. She found it and is an important part of our little family.

A pet is a lifetime responsibility, they can't do for themselves but provide so much joy.

You do know or have learned where Yorkies sleep........ Where ever they want to............

Usually in the bed, under the covers if it is cold, against your side.

Oh yea, and their barking is a form of training you.
