A famous Viking explorer returned home from a voyage and found his
name missing from the town register. His wife insisted on complaining to
the local civic official who apologized profusely saying, "I must have
taken Leif off my census."
 
A Russian explorer of the same era was contemplating a long expidition. He studied his charts, and watched the horizon, paying particular attention to the cloud formations. His wife grew weary of his preparations - "Rudy, WHEN are you leaving on this trip?? You've been ready for a long time?!" "My dear," Rudy replied, "I shall leave in 8 days, after the rains come!" "Rain, WHAT rain??!! I don't remember the last time it rained!" 2 days later it rained and rained steadily for 5 days. The next day, as he was loading his ships and getting ready to leave, his wife said, "Be safe on your journey and return to me. Just HOW did you know it would rain and when it would end?"

He looked at her, smiled and said:

"Rudolph the Red KNOWS rain, dear!"
