Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Yesterday a friend had his <NO LAUGHING> Geo Metro towed to th' hovel, cam belt had skinned itself. JOb took an hour and a bit, as it was the first time I'd touched a three cylinder Suzi. NEXT time it'll be half an hour, tops. 41 MPG is nothing to make fun of...

Today I get to rescue another pal: His Isuzu Rodeo hemmoraged the clutch hydraulic fluid all over th' street. Master cylinder kit and a slave replacement. Only problem is: the slave cylinder box my supplier received has a MASTER cylinder in it... now we wait 'til 1 O'clock for the correct part. SO it isn't just LBC's parts wot get pre-FUBAR'd.

T'morrow I plan to spend playin' out: An MGB day!!! I'll need it as therapy after wrenchin' on all this oriental stuff! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

You should come visit. No one wants to motor with me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

heh. Next time I come up your way I'll give ya a "heads-up" aforehand. It'll be late SUMMER. I'm a whimp. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Rodeo: Clutch master is studded. Nuts are inside the firewall in a pedal box; you NEED a 1/4" drive 12MM deep-well swivel socket. Clevis pin is VERY similar to an XKE Jag arrangement only HARDER to get to (if that's possible). Bottom line: Kids, do NOT attempt this trick in the noon-day sun in a parking lot in central bloody FLORIDA!!! GAH!! Better part of an HOUR was spent just finessin' the nuts off the cylinder securing studs!! 20 minutes to rebuild the thing and put it all back in... Bled out and functional... total time, 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM including parts pick-up and travel. Not too bad but that lad is gonna get triple-A or another wrench.

That's the LAST "fix-'em-where-they-broke" I'm doin' on a non-LBC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Fine by me. My insurance runs out at the end of this month anyways. No LBCs until next spring. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

My pal Charlie is the Englishman... and "YES" we worked together in the noon-day sun for YEARS. <WOOF!>

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

Swapped out the slave and put new pads on the front of this Rodeo lump at the hovel yesterday... MUCH improved working conditions and access to appropriate tools.

I will now pressure all my mechanically challenged friends to sign up for AAA. "Bring it HERE and I'll see if we can fix it."

What I should REALLY do is tell everyone I don't touch anything except an LBC... get one of those if you want ~me~ to work on yer car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I went that route a long time ago, Doc. A gent at work wanted me to take a look at his Audi A6 that went "Ka-Chunk" and quit. I just smirked and said "nope."

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

Most times that's my tack as well, but there are a few folk I consider worthy of an 'extra mile' now and then. This was a week for two of 'em... Metro owner is the PO of Herself's MG (his divorce in '89 'forced' him to sell the car) and a life-long friend. Rodeo owner is a great guy and friend as well. I *can* say no, have in many instances. I chose not to in this case.

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

Izzat a ~gasp~ BERET that guy's wearing?!?

And now back to topic: The Rodeo show'd up in the driveway AGAIN yesterday AM. Clutch M/C only working "limply". When I pulled it out and apart the first time in the PARKING LOT, I had no way to hone the bore. It looked clean so I figgered it'd be worth a shot to get the lad rolling. It seemed fine at first. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The long and short of it is: took the MC out ~AGAIN~. First R&R took nearly 3 houors. THIS time, with access to my tools, it took about an hour including honing it, and a few coffee breaks as we went. Now it's got real pressure and works as designed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The reason the thing failed inna first place is... y'all are gonna LOVE this... the owner listened to some "expert" who told him power steering fluid would work in the clutch M/C!!! Oops. Well it DID work for a bit...

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

Doc, my .45 will solve your Rodeo problem - right through the engine block!

Re: Yesterday, today and tomorrow... Rodeo report.

Don't think I've not considered that option, Tony!

...tho it would be a waste of a one each, perfectly good round. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Er, Being a Dr. and all, knowing that the leg bone's connected to the knee bone, connected to the thigh bone, connected to the.... whatever.

Similar good things likely happening to the slave cylinder, and discretely hidden your good self? The Dr. is out? Take two aspirin and don't call me in the morning? etc.
