In addition to cutting & edging my 3-1/2 acre yard, its time to do some tree/shrub trimming.....after dumping 5 truckloads of crepe myrtle limbs, I'm about halfway finished with them - now I've gotta tackle all my Bradford Pear trees starting next week.....& then the flowering bushes.....

Plus, I've got a landscape crew coming in Monday to redo the drainage around the rear of the GarageMahal (think I might rename it) so that, during our heavy rain months, I don't get any water in the garage.

I do all my tree/shrub trimming a section of the yard at a time, about 2-3 hours every day or so during the cooler hours of the day...its a real pain this time every year but they sure are pretty when in full foliage/bloom.

Anybody else started on their season-end yard work?

When you telephoned today, I was taking a break from unloading cut limbs.....getting too old!

However, Jerri just came in from her evening walk & told me a neighbor had commented on how nice he thought my crepe myrtles looked after their 'haircut'!

Yeah, gas prices have really put a hitch in how far we can go anymore to search out our "finds" We used to go 1000 miles to just look at possible cars, but pulling a trailer behind a surburban can build up $$$ fast and a $500 car becomes a $1000 car before you know it. Unfortuately, Arkansas is just not a hot bed of LBC's.
Too bad we don't rebuild pick ups!

After-storm, mid-season yard-work for me...one of the down-sides to Fl. living is year-round yard-work!!! :frown:

For each year over 60, your yard will (seem to ) grow by at least 50 percent. We started with 1 acre of lawn over 20 years ago but now have converted more than half to natural areas, ground cover, water features, etc. Much easier to manage.

Not me...I'm working on cars.

I have a plan that allows me to focus on the things I enjoy; yardwork is NOT one of them. I do my best to keep the grass and shrubs...at the point of death. They are just hanging on...no time to grow...it's survival.

Looks like this doggone tropical storm might drop 4-5 inches of rain on N. Georgia over the next couple days, spoiling our lovely drought and most likely meaning I'll need to get out the mower again this year.

PS - the total watering ban over the past two years has relegated my neighbor's yard to the same sorry state as mine...and that after he spent many thousands of dollars on landscaping and an irrigation system (now useless to him) three years ago...about the same time that I bought a couple more cars.

I just got a chain saw attachment that goes on my gas powered edger, trimmer. Has an extra long handle as well, Home Depot, $100. Works great and has saved its cost in the first 30 min.

Really nice to be able to cut those limbs that are 15 feet from the ground as I no longer do latters. One of the advantages of age.
