I want, no need, no would like to have another B. I really want a '71. Hubby is reading the classifieds & checking ebay and autohopper every couple days. He's not opposed to another car or restoring it, I just think he wants one that isn't completely a skeleton, you know?

Last time we were looking, he said, 'I want a black or green one.' I'm sure he was just running his mouth. Well. Found a '71, looks to be BRG, not sure the original color.

I need ya'll to look at this car and let me know what you think. I've bid up to $500 almost, and I won't bid much more than $1000/$1500 without some 'expert' thoughts on this. It's within driving distance so we could run take a look at it. And the owner did email me many more extensive pictures. I'll host them to photobucket and put a link here.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Hiya Jaybird!

Good Luck!

I'm a little "gun-shy" of ebay, but since you can actually get to see the car before you buy it,...pay it a visit and go from there.

I got tons of pics from the previous owner of my car,...but If I could go back and physically see the car, before I bought it,..I'd do that in a heartbeat!

I'm sure that the seller is a "stand up guy",...but ya never know! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Cheers! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

You're right Jerry, you never know. If the car were in CA or Botswana, I'd never give it a second thought. But -- whoa, just mapquested it out. It's down near Gulf Shores AL, about 700 miles+ from me. I'd have to get that car very cheap because I'm not driving that far to look at it. Ungh.

Hey, how's your restoration going? I haven't checked your website lately.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Hiya Jaybird,

Ya,..it's tough when it's so far away /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Things are going ok here,..the bodyshop has been too busy for me (Major snow + major crashes = big $ for the body guys)

So I'm towing my car to the mechanic this week, he'll pull the engine, and clean out the engine bay, then we'll send it back to the body guys for the rest of the finish work.

This way, the engine rebuild will be done when the body is finished,..and I'll be (fingers crossed,...knocking wood) driving her for the upcoming spring /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Just checked your site. Has to be terribly frustrating being at a standstill. Good idea to get the engine done during the down time. I'm anxious to see a picture of you cruising down the road in the finished project!!!

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

jaybird, I'm going out on a limb here but if I was in the market for an MGB in the one to two thousand dollar range I would have to give this one some serious thought. I would have like to see a side view on each side to check the gaps, mostly at the top of the doors in the rear because that is were they start to close up when rust takes a good hold in the bottom seals and door pillows. If it's not what you want after getting it home you can surely get your money back with parting it out. Wayne

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

See, Wayne. I think it's fundamentally solid. (see attachment if that helps)

But a big part of me knows it's just that I have the LBC bug bad! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

jaybird, it's hard to tell for sure, but they look fine. Your problem will be getting all the good stuff away from hubby to put on your car. Wayne

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

I graduated in '71. THIS is the B I wanted in high school. This one will be mine too. ~very evil grin~

Besides, he just doesn't look as cute in a LBC as I do.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Looks like it was red at one time. Floor pan in one shot is red. Question always is - will you do almost all the work yourself or yourselves as the case may be? If yes than price is not so bad. BUT if a lot of it is farmed out than I would buy a good car that needs no work and spend the extra up front. Also all the little insignificant things that it needs like a tiny little door handle and maybe one piece of chrome and just one gauge and and and, adds up real fast.

Buy a car for $1000. Put $8000 in it. Car is now worth...
$5000.

I would like a 1965 light blue one. Year I graduated and I had one at that time.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

I think the car doesn't look too bad. But don't kid yourself about it... it's definitely a project car. It would be some time before that B would be on the road. I think the guys auction sounds really honest however. He's not trying to kid you about the fact that the floors need replacing, the hood needs replacing, the tank needs replacing, the carbs need rebuilt and from the pictures and description, I think he's done a pretty good job of fuly disclosing everything about the car. That means it's up to you and Da'hubby to decide how much of a project car you want. I know I've read other posts about B's you were looking at so I know you are "in the market". The biggest concern I see with this particular B is the floorboards. If that is something that Da'hubby can tackle with no problems, then it might not be too bad of a project. Everything else is bolt on fixes and in-shop restoration, but there is plenty of them! Good luck whatever you choose!

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Ahhh. That's the dilemma. How much does a person put into a vehicle they want to enjoy, not look at? When we bought my B in October (from Johnny on the boards here) we gave $4000, which (shhh, don't tell Johnny!) I think was a VERY good price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It's not a showroom car, but I wanted a driver, not a piece of art. There are things that need done/redone to the B, but for the most part, looks good!

I understand what you're saying. Spend a $1000, stick $8000 into it. But would definitely give dahubby (who is retired and bored beyond belief -- and under my feet -- in the winter) something to do. And he's handy enough mechanically that he can do all the important bits. The body work and paint job would go to John Mangles - he's in our car club, has a shop and specializes in LBCs.

You pegged me pretty good. I want to buy the car, fix it NOW and drive it this summer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

I'll talk to dahubby tonight. So much can be done for little besides time and labor (and a bit of bucks)

Anyone have a 4-car garage they don't need? Footage is a premium in our 2-car and we have the boat in winter storage!

Nothing's simple, is it?

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Jaybird, From the pictures on Ebay the car looks OK, but pretty rusty. Also the seller seams to be familiar with MGB's so he knows what it's worth....no deals here.....Just from looking at the pics almost everywhere you looks something has been played with...this means in order to fix something you's have to figure out what the previous person did to jimmy it together. If you've got the time and money to redo it then get it...but don't plan on having it this summer.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Wayne /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gifand seven hundred miles is a nick to drive I would save some bucks by bringing it home myself the rust is not earth shaking and a lot of it can be controlled with One Step or Rust Bullet. So JB go get it but not a buck over $1500:00 well maybe a Buck over isn't too bad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif---Keoke

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Yes JB, I have heard that philosophy before; "Whats Your Is Mine and Whats Mine is Mine Too"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

I think you guys have your right from left mixed up!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifThis car has a "Cross Flow" cylinder head and SU HIF4 carbs. Current worth of the head and manifold are $2200. Thats like finding a bag of gold in your engine bay. A good overdrive is worth $750-1000.

Re: Ya'll get in here...NOW!

Thats right David! If I were a MG Man I would have asked for a buy now price and if reasonable I would be on my way to fetch it.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
