HooRah!! The last major replacment part for my Six
arrived this past Sunday. A good, used differential
purchased from E-Bay. Thank you Paul for the link.

It appears, the fine young gentleman, (Peter in
English) who previously owned the car, was not aware
differentials needed oil or oil seals. I paid Western
Auto to install oil seals into DPO Peter's but the
damage to the innards was already done. I am also
attempting to rotate my dizzy and dog 180* as a single
unit since the young gentleman, DPO Peter, made an error
and installed it in reverse. For you other Rookies out
there- I am using a BIG wrench as it requires much torgue.

The "new" diffy looks just fine to this TR6 rookie. It
makes no sounds when the different parts are rotated by
hand. I have replaced evrything else in the drive trane,
so I am hopeful the "new" differential will complete the
process.

So for update:

The diffy HPO Bob (honest previous owner) emailed me
that I do not have to replace the oil seals on his diffy.
The oil on his diffy was from the removal process. Twin
rear cover gaskets and I could install this beast today.

Pero, esta muy feo y yo necesito limpiarlo y
powder coat. Claro si! )Silver powder coat the rear cover
with 2 part car color red, modified poly paint for the main
differential body.

here's a few photos- can anyone identify the rear cover
of my existing differential? It is a single piece
construction and I cannot locate it in any of the usual reference books. Just curious.

Tom
PS - check that diffy *very* carefully. Might be coated with that Puerto Rico beauty pageant pepper spray.

Yes Tom,

The diffy I purchased is from a TR4A. I do not know if
it's cover plates and mounts will fit into my Six. The
diffy itself will fit my axles and drive shaft.

I intend to pull young gentleman Peter's diffy rear
plate off, powder coat it and install it onto HPO Bob's
diffy body. (unless a dry fit trial shows me HPO Bob's
rear plate and mounts will fit onto my diffy mount pins.

later gator- Childrens Charity today.
Catch you back in the evening.

I must be missing something, Dale ... that looks like a TR4A cover to me.

Randall,

I sent that link to Dale in an email last night, but I don't think that he received it. I told him to order the gaskets because they will be the same.

Yo no hablo.

Errr, Tinster, check for the pepper spray just before
you go to install....that seems to be the time it
might show up.

The TR-4A & TR-250 used a 2-piece rear cover. The TR-6 had a 1-piece cover (and there were two versions I think). AFAIK, they are all interchangeable. Way to go T-Man!

Bill,

Dale bought a used TR4 diffy from ebay. He has a TR6 diffy in his car. Needs to switch the covers and should be good to go.

I think you just said, "The cheese is old and moldy."

"I think you just said, "The cheese is old and moldy."

Great - just what I needed to read at lunch. Now wiping salisbury steak off the keyboard ....

Didn't eat the macaroni and cheese - the cheese was ... oops ...

Change of clothes and I gotta scoot out of here again.

I KNOW I purchased a TR4A diffy and rear cover.
I was just curious what my existing rear cover
might be. It does not look like any TR6 models
I found.

Curious, is all. I'll put my exising cover and install
it on my
new" diffy body.

thanks,, gotta run.

later,

The Rookie

Dale and all, Triumph used up their 250 and TR4A rears up until 1970 as they were all the same. I have atleast one back plate (rear cover) out of a TR6 that I took from an original owners car that had the early plate. The point being what Dale received could very well be out of a TR6.

Glad to see you let us in on "THE LAST PROJECT", or major one, for a while.

Best of British Luck, Wayne

"Bug Eye News" is moldy cheese ???

:^)

Wayne, we all know that there is no such thing with these cars, unless the owner is heading for his own funeral.

But that's what makes this a hobby.

I believe the Rookie stated:

"last major replacement PART"

NOT last Project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It won't be either one, Dale. They ~do~ break occasionally from use, y'see... Or WILL see. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
