HooRah!! The last major replacment part for my Six
arrived this past Sunday. A good, used differential
purchased from E-Bay. Thank you Paul for the link.
It appears, the fine young gentleman, (Peter in
English) who previously owned the car, was not aware
differentials needed oil or oil seals. I paid Western
Auto to install oil seals into DPO Peter's but the
damage to the innards was already done. I am also
attempting to rotate my dizzy and dog 180* as a single
unit since the young gentleman, DPO Peter, made an error
and installed it in reverse. For you other Rookies out
there- I am using a BIG wrench as it requires much torgue.
The "new" diffy looks just fine to this TR6 rookie. It
makes no sounds when the different parts are rotated by
hand. I have replaced evrything else in the drive trane,
so I am hopeful the "new" differential will complete the
process.
So for update:
The diffy HPO Bob (honest previous owner) emailed me
that I do not have to replace the oil seals on his diffy.
The oil on his diffy was from the removal process. Twin
rear cover gaskets and I could install this beast today.
Pero, esta muy feo y yo necesito limpiarlo y
powder coat. Claro si! )Silver powder coat the rear cover
with 2 part car color red, modified poly paint for the main
differential body.
here's a few photos- can anyone identify the rear cover
of my existing differential? It is a single piece
construction and I cannot locate it in any of the usual reference books. Just curious.
