Nope, realist! :wink: It's a great idea but you'd have to have something built privately (as in not by a phone co) that will work on any network AND said networks will allow it. It'll never happen but it's a great idea, besides, Volkswagen isn't in the phone business. :smirk:
 
You also need to have a market. Let's face it, they younger you are the more you're already conditioned to not want a phone, tablet, etc for the long haul. You'd have to change the technology customer to not want to swap every year or two.
 
Well, ok but this concept has been tried by the inventor of the Disk on Key, with the Modu phone. The concept was a phone module that you can add on different "jackets" to add options to the phone. They actually got a product to market but were not successful.
 
Just like the U.S. auto industry in the '50's... the things have become a fashion statement. Common sense usurped by status symbol.
 
Yea, I know a couple of technology junkies who have to have whatever the latest thing is, no matter if they really need it or not. Me, I use a phone until the battery starts to stop holding a charge then replace, and use for pretty much nothing but phone calls. No movies, games, texting..
 
I'm with you Mike! I use a phone to talk to people, if they need more, they can come visit! :encouragement: PJ
 
I'm similar. Still using a perfectly acceptable Motorola Flip-phone. Can both make and receive calls. On the second battery now. When it dies I can't imagine what I'd want to get to replace it. May go e-bay hunting for the same thing.
 
I'm still using a Nokia 8600... yes, you read right. I bought three used ones on ebay some years ago and I just keep replacing spare parts as needed. Last fall, I was patching the driveway and got some hot tar on the keyboard... no problem, just grabbed another from my stash and installed it.

I'm down with no texting. It makes no sense to me, trying to type on a phone when you can just speak to someone.

A serious question, why would a computer guy not upgrade to a "computer" phone? Is it a matter of it aint dead yet or dislike of change? I would think someone like you would jump at the change to have so much power in a pocket sized device.
 
feh. I ~hate~ computers. Whole idea that we're absolutely dependent on 'em frustrates me. Akin to the Tower of Babel, IMO.

Change for its own sake is unnecessary, a phone with the capability of a PC is overkill for me. No keyboard, small screen, poor rez camera... I have real tools for the jobs the hand-helds do half-fast.

I'll "upgrade" when this lump finally goes Tango Uniform, no good reason to do it otherwise.
