XKE series 2 thermo fan switch bung stud repair.

I was in the process of replacing my fan thermo switch which is incorporated into the upper tank of my series 2 XKE. the switch and switch cover are installed over 3 10/32 studs and then secured by nuts. In the process one of the studs snapped. Has anyone had the same problem, and can you advise how you resolved the Issue. Im assuming that extraction will be unsuccessful leaving a thin walled 10/32 Heli coil? Do I have any other options? If it makes a difference the radiator is out of the car for cleanup and paint. Thanks for your anticipated input.

be sure to sand off the cad plating on the nut before you weld. Fingers crossed that the heat breaks the bond for you.

Yeah-thanks. Not sure how the housing is attached to the brass tank.If soldered Any heat may cause a problem absent a wet rag. Also not sure if the studs were threaded in or epoxied. If the latter There are options but very time consuming. Hard to believe that someone else ahsen"t had the same problem.

I have done a few, but never had this problem. If you take it to a rad shop, have them remove the plate and you sort it and they can re fix it to the rad.
