XKE second opinon

And I did a big clean up two years ago. Its full again, can't fix them up fast enough. Anyone want a TR6 or XKE. I can cut back.

It can be had, call me.

Geez Marvin, you just bought it!
You don't know Marvin, Basil.....they all can be had if the price is right!

Told ya, I'm out of room. If it was the only XKE I had, it would be different. I do like this one. I'm not attached yet because I haven't had a chance to drive it. If they drive and feel good, I do hold on to them. Can't keep them all but will trade up when I can.

The $2k remark was sarcasm. Pleased to learn it lit off, that's really half the battle. The calipers were off the car but "with" it? I kinda took the first description as: the calipers were nowhere to be found. That woulda been a huge 'bargaining chip' IMO.

When ya do get it roadworthy I'll be interested to know how well second gear engages, too...

Once looked at an old 3.8 at a hog lot 'dealer' and th' #2 baulk ring was shot. Sales weasel stated with authority: "Oh, they're ALL like that, sir."

*sheesh*

If you need front brake calipers, go to a Datsun (excuse me - Nissan) dealer and get 4 new calipers for a Datsun 2000 ('60's vintage). They used the same 2 1/8" calipers that all the ser.1 E used. They still make them and the price is low. You can even put them on the rear as a group of all 4 instead of the original 1 7/8" Jag had. Have put all 8 on Jags for years with no ill effects on cars used for hard driving, autocrossing, and vintage racing. Since the fronts do most of the braking, the small difference is not noticed.

A mechanical engineer once worked out all the numbers and the difference in the rear was only a few percent.

Also, the caliper change in '68-'69 used very different rear and front calipers, but used the same master and booster. Yours is the early 3.8 system which used the same F & R calipers up to the ser.2.

Phil.

Doc, no issues here. I like all the talk. Makes you think. When you read about the brakes, I wasn't sure they were there either. PO did a nice job labeling everything parts wise.

Phil- like your idea about the brake calipers, will check into that before I order the kits. I was going to do that tonight.
