XKE S2 - Cigar Lighter Mounting

I am sorting out my radio console. Above the gap where the radio slides in is a narrower gap (original ash tray location on earlier cars?). It is a replacement unit as I found a worn Martin Robey sticker on the back. Firstly, do I have the correct radio console?

If yes, the padded piece that attaches to the front is presumably a replacement as it doesn't have the hole punched out for the cigar lighter. As I want a power source for my GPS/phone etc, I intend to fit a modern 12V accessory socket there. I don't have any mounting behind the padded piece and I don't see it standing up to continued pushing and pulling of socket plugs. How is the socket/cigar lighter supported?

Thanks

Have you thought of a pig tail socket placed somewhere inconspicuous? Otherwise you'll have to back up the socket behind the panel and brace it to somewhere solid. Most of the e-types I have worked on, had very thin switch panels and the ignition Key barrel would spin without turning on the switch.

Thanks Steve. This is on a Series 2 where the cigar lighter is meant to be mounted above the radio. I am just trying to re-create that mounting.

My ignition key barrel is column mounted.

Cars with A/C have the lighter mounted lower, to the right of the console.
