In Phillip Porters XK resotration book he states that the sump is unpainted. Can anyone confirm that? Wouldn't it rust?

I have not seen any XK 140 oil pans without the same black paint used on the blocks Unless you have a cast aloy pan.

Porter's book is a little misleading in that respect. He states that the sump was aluminium alloy and was left unpainted, and yet there is a photograph showing both 140 and 150 sumps, and these appear to be steel, with black paint remaining on them.

I can only assume that the unpainted sumps to which he refers were only on the XK120.
