I am restoring my 55 XK 140 and would like to repaint the engine block. My restoration book says that all blocks were painted black. However my auto parts store has flat, gloss and low gloss in black engine paint. Any idea which shade I should use? Also, I noticed that one paint was good to 500 dgrees and a little more expensive one, good to 1200 degrees. Mac

All of the really good restos I've seen use gloss black. Spend a bit more for the high temp paint. Also gloss black should clean up better from those ever present oil leaks that we all seem to experience!!!

If your block ever approaches 500 degrees, I would think that the paint heat rating would be the last of your concerns! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
