XK 140 doors

Inside the aluminum doors of my XK140, there is card board like material (stiffer than cardboard) glued to the inside of the doors. I'm guessing it is there to stiffen the door skin since the aluminum is not all that strong. My question is this, was this put on at the factory or was it something a previous owner would have installed. If it is a stock item, does anyone know what it is and where I could find a like product to use when I restore the doors. Mac
 
The doors had sound deadening material glued to the inside of the doors starting about even with the upper wood brace and ending about even with the lower wood brace. It runs the length of the door and has a sort of waffle pattern. It should be replaced with sound deadening material. J. C. Whitney has a product that is very good for this purpose, in my opinion. It is self adhesive and best applied in hot weather. It is item ZX125514A in the J. C. Whitney online catalogue and costs about $30. Good luck.
 
Thanks Roger, I'll check that product out. You mentioned a wood brace inside the door. My doors don't have those. I'm wondering if they could have been taken out during some previous body work? Mac
 
My doors are still apart so I will take pictures and send them to you. The orignal material was used by Jaguar (and other British car manufacturers) in most of their cars. It seems to be a sort of papier mache impregnated with tar. I think it "dies out" over time and eventually crumbles.
