XK 140 color combination

I'm in the process of restoring a 1955 XK 140 and getting close to the point where I will need to to decide on a color. The original color was Battleship Gray. I appologize to the purists, but there's no way I'm painting it that color. The interior is an oxblood red so the most natural color would be to paint it Old English White or black possibly. But I'm thinking of Britsh Racing Green with that color interior and wondered if anyone has seen that combination on other LBC's and if so, what you thought of it?

Birch grey appears to be the darkest grey offered for your 140. There is a lighter grey that really looks much better.

I think if you would see some of these cars in their original colors you may actually change your mind as many look quite nice in the flesh.

I have researched early XK colors and may use one on my TR2 restoration as the original TR colors in 1954 were pretty dismal.

Here's a great link I found with actual pictures of period correct (and some uncorrect) Jag colors.

That's a great page.

My XK 140 (gone now) was red, but I looked at lots of other XK colors as I really wished mine was a different color.

That Pearl Gray XK 140 is pretty much what I decided was my favorite color. Pearl Gray w/red interior is stunning.

Second choice (for me) would be Imperial Maroon w/red interior.

It's all a matter of taste, but I find it interesting that some colors which I don't particularly like on smaller sports cars looke really handsome on the big XK, like Cotswold Blue.

Thanks Yankee TR for the web site. I had been looking for some of those colors and couldn't find them. Mac

You're welcome.

My brother's '55 140M was pastel blue with grey leather. He bought it in '58...soon afterwards he got involved in a 'auto sandwich' and wrecked both the front and rear end of the car.

It took about a year but he got it back together. He repainted it 1958 Dodge truck red...kept the grey interior...it was nice. And in those days red cars were not the norm.

Paul Skilleter's _The Jaguar XK_ had a photo of a stunning gray XK140 on the dustjacket of the original hardcover edition - just to give you an idea of how sharp it can look, put it on the front of the book!

It's a good book to look at different color combinations, as it's got lots of photos. The original hardcover edition (with dustjacket) is out of print, but can still be found:
