XJ-40 - looking for better head lights

The previous owner of my XJ-40 converted the single headlight units to the double ones, unless they were an option of the '93 models.

Anyways, I am looking into getting better bulbs for these units as they are not that powerfull. Tips anybody?

Thanks,
Steven

I assume you mean that you now have the 5 3/4" American style headlights. If so, you can go to various sources and buy European style H4 lamps for the low beams and H1 for the high beams.

True about the H4 lamps, also I found the original units for my 1993 XJ6 to be adequately bright for driving. If you like the looks of the OE Euro lamps check for a used set and convert the car back to them possibly. I see them on ebay, etc. fairly often.

Convert the high beams to 110W halogen silverstars and do the H4 low/high in a 55/65W or 55/100W silverstar. You may have to put a heavier wire in the high beams within the lamp for the increased heat. Systems are compatible with the wiring. Used this set-up in a XJS.

I think I described it wrong.

The lights on the XJ40 are the quad type lights with the sealed units made by Wagner. The question would be; are there any other units out there that have more output.

You can get Hella halogen upgrades in high and low beams. Both in the 5 3/4" lights. Check JC Whitney cheaper than most Jag sales catalogs.
