when replacing the rear springs on my 63 bj7 i noticed that i had a non-stock ubolt plate on both sides. i would like to replace with stock healey plates. or, if not, does anyone know what the stock plate ubolt hole size and location of the holes might be> thanks for any help. maxwedge5281@charter.net

The stock plates tend to bend, perhaps the PO made a set out of stronger metal.???

if someone has a loose plate to measure i could buy a heavy duty, stronger plate off ebay or elsewhere. they plates on my car had larger holes and were spread too far apart. and also had a traction bar receiver.

You could buy them new from Moss or probably used from British Car Specialists, Healey Surgeons or Mike Salter (michael.salter at gmail dot com). See item #11 on the 'Rear Suspension BN1 to early BJ8' page.

The earlier style are perhaps stronger than the laters. Just measured mine at 3/16" steel. The Moss repros may be wimpier, their u-bolts certainly bend more easily than the OEMs.

i went ahead and determined the bolt hole spacing and called warrior products to see it they have a similar plate or just send me a couple of blanks and i can drill myself. they make heavy duty ubolt plates for lots of enthusiasts especially off road! awaiting their callback....

warrior products is going to make up a plate to my specifications for the cost of one side from one of the forum suppliers. it wont be original but it will be heavy dauty and US made.

Might be a good time to think about some traction control if you're planning on any hard launches. Traction bars tend to hang kind of low. I followed this idea: https://www.britishv8.org/articles/easy-traction.htm I haven't engaged in any smoky burnouts, so can't attest to how effective it is, but it was an easy mod and hasn't affected the handling at all.

that seems like an easy way to improve traction under hard launches. and, it does not hang low. the ubolt plates that were on the car had provisions for traction bars that i removed several months ago.
