Wrong Radiator

I just received my new radiator, and it looks like they sent me a vertical flow instead of a cross-flow. <Dumb Question>Before I send it back, is there any reason why I would want this over the cross flow? The car does not have to be original...</Dumb Question>

Thanks
-Tony

One reason would be one less radiator hose.
You will need the verticle flow t/stat cover, it points to the right side of the car.
As a Spridget owner/thermodynamics engineer proved, bothe radiators cool exactly the same. The verticle flow was a better made radiator, easier to mount and drain compared to the cross flow.
The cross had better ducting but thinner cores.
Each has it's goods and bads, each cools the same.

Have always used a verticle radiator in my bugeyes, never had an overheating prob.

So it sounds like I should probably just keep this one. spritenut: what is the "verticle flow t/stat cover"? Is this for the threaded hole on the passenger side of the radiator (near the top)?

Tony, the 't/stat cover' is the thermostat housing, on a 1275 it points toward the passenger side. For a vertical flow radiator, it points to the drivers side where the top hose of the radiator is and connects there.
The threaded hole needs a brass or plastic bolt, check the vendor catalogs for that one, can't remember the size off hand.

Sounds like you're getting closer to getting it running. Bugsy got back on the road after a few days in the garage getting alignment done. Looking forward to getting back out with the top down. Take care.

Jim, it sure is getting close. Hasn't been driven since 82 - been in the family since 71. My goal is to be driving it this summer. I am going to have to check out Bugsy sometime...
