It may be worth your time to take it to a couple places that will give you much higher bids to do the work.
 
I plan on getting a few more estimates.....I told him not to hold back on the estimate and he did all he could to get it where it is. I trust this guy 110%.
 
Great news...sometimes things work out well! The biggest challenge will be to get the left side to look just like the right side, and to maintain a good fit with proper gaps on the car.

I'd have him total the bonnet and get a new one. Like the man said, tough to get it right.

Gettin' the impression you might be single handedly responsible for insurance rates going up. Just sayin. :devilgrin:

Glad to hear the likely good news. That does sound like a reasonable estimate and with that police report, I think you pretty well have the insurance company over the barrel. If you trust the body guy, I wouldn't hesitate but do get more estimates for better leverage on the claim.
 
Mr Sprite, If you have the chance, you should go watch your guy pull that out. It is a fascinating process, and it can go from a big ugly gash to pretty close to where it was in a short time. The tricks are cool, and you will be surprised at how it comes out.
Ask him to check the center panel for compression, too.
I spent days on my Bugeye's nose, pulling it back out from a previous incident with hammers and dollies. The right front corner of the car was literally sculpted out of bondo, but that is another story...
 
UPDATE!

I just got off the phone with the insutrance company and they are accepting liability!!! YES! There was a period of time when I thought I was screwed. Evidently the girl who hit me changed her story a few times with her own insurance company.....that coupled with the police report that all but said she was at fault and they decided in my favor.

I now need to wait for the adjuster to call and come look at the car. I should have a check in my hand early next week. :smile:
 
Good news (from a bad situation). Hopefully all goes smoothly from here on out.

I know you'll still be holding your breath until you get the check, I would.

Man that's great. Everytime (except for Katrina) I ever delt w/ insurance companies they always tried to screw me. The adjuster for Katrina was a good ol' boy from south Alabama that knew how folks should be treated. :wink: We were very pleased. :thumbsup:

If I were you, I'd consider getting it fixed and the check sent to the shop. Once you cash it that's it, no more soup for you no matter how bad the car is.

Since it is a unique car (his words), the adjuster wants to meet with me and the Bugeye at the repair shop to discuss the work it needs. This shop doesn't do estimates.....it's done when it's done (and done right). He did give me a ballpark of $2000 though.....we'll see what happens, but believe me.....I'm not going to grab the check and cash it! I want my car fixed properly. :smile:


I'll update again when I talk to the adjuster in person and make the appointment for the work.

Good news there. And that sounds like a proper price for a proper repair job.
 
Another update......got the settlement from the insurance company yesterday. It wasn't quite the $2000 I needed, but it was close and they will cover the additional costs once the shop talks to them. The adjuster agreed that a specialty shop would be better than a regular shop and that the labor would be higher, but that his system would not allow him to adjust the labor rates (I believe they are almost twice that of a normal body shop!).

I drop off the car this weekend......they said it would take them a week to do, but that they will be squeezing it inbetween other jobs so it may take longer. I will ask them to snap some pics of the work as it progresses.
