TR2/3/3A Would you keep both a TR3 and 3000? Is it crazy?

Andrew Mace said:
Well, that 3B has the wrong badge on front (should be the later blue/white badge), which pretty much destroys any value the car had; I'll give you $500 tops, right now.

Seriously, I'd keep and enjoy both if you have no pressing need for the funds. Apples and oranges. Period. :driving:

Good catch, Andrew. The photo of both in the hangar is more recent (a couple nights ago). I think you can see the blue and white badge. One of the little steps toward originality I enjoy taking. I don't get any joy from "panel beating" and rust repair any more- spent too many years doing that when I was in my 20's.

Thank you all for the input. You have put into words what I've been unable to. Frankly, the TR3 is a much more enjoyable car than I expected. I thought it would be easy to choose the Healey over it, but hasn't been. So I think I should hold onto both for the time being.

Also, there is an article in USA Today this morning about how the average stock fund lost 5.9% this year, some much more than that. So why not have something more tangible, that is fun, interesting, historic, and when I go out to the garage in the morning, 5.9% of it won't have disappeared!

Best to all, Jeff

Jeff....If you can get by on food stamps...I would keep them both. Bottom line is you can always find a 401K to stuff your funds into. You cannot always find a couple beautiful cars like this to own...more less own them at the same time!
I would be sleeping with one on one night...and the other on the next night! (and not be looking under the Christmas Tree!) Gil NoCal

Jeff, I have to say that I'd keep the cars and sell the plane.

But if you must get rid of one or the other, Andrew is trying to take advantage of your situation. That TR3 is worth at least $750 and to be a sport, I'll give you $850 for it. Heck, I'd even give you $1,200 for the 3000.

But seriously, I can understand your quandary....

Howdy Jeff,

I was just driving thru & found your "Situation" quite Interesting.

"WE SHOULD ALL HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE YOURS"!!

I`ve never had a "BIG" Healey so I can`t say anything relative to the driving characteristics vs a "TR3". I have had 2 TR3As over the years & They were just a blast to drive & a very "Nostalgic" ride. Thats why I`m restoring my `57TR3 Small Mouth now.

I`d sell my 1st born, Wife, House, Plane etc. and keep both those Lovely Machines.

I have space in my Garage for either one that you would feel would need to looked after at "NO CHARGE" for storage!!

Best Wishes,

Russ

My mom always said "An honest confession is good for the soul."

So I'm confessing. I have decided to see if the TR3 will sell for a reasonable price. Don't get me wrong, I love my TR3. I just have too many toys to keep track of these days and I use it less than any other right now.

This may be a good study of the TR3 market. Here's a link if you'd care to watch:

The Healey is likely to be next in line.

Best to all, Jeff

Jeff, nicely written ad for a beautiful car. Best of luck with the auction.

unfortunately the market is down for everything, its a buyers market, if you can hang on to both till things turn around you could get more for them than now

in my opinion

Hondo,

I agree with you. On the other hand, the weekends seem awfully short these days. I need to learn to get focused, too. I have way too many toys to tend to right now. It would be absolutely luxurious to have one empty garage bay. (If I can resist the urge to refill it.)

Thanks, Jeff

While it is true that the market is down for mid-range 'drivers' I think it is still very much there for the best cars (such as yours).

Based on this morning's bidding, I think the market likes it.

Thanks, Geo.

This hit reserve pretty doggone quick. The high bidder contacted me, sounds like a solid buyer, with a nice collection of original British stuff.

Wonder if it will just sit there now? It's times like those I don't like a 7 day auction- too slow.

Just looked at your car on Ebay. I have TCF 2709, it to is black, but black interior. Didn't I read that the last 200 3B's were black on black. There's a 3B on VTR for $40K so yours is priced way to cheap. The better cars are selling. I sent an XK120 to UK last month, was happy with the price.

Marv,

I haven't heard that about the last 200 3B's. This is most definitely original interior and is red.

Thanks for the info on that VTR for sale. Sounds like a nice car. (I hope nobody tries to use the handcrank that is mentioned in the ad- they'll poke a hole in something!)

By the way, Marv, can you post your engine number? I'm curious since our cars are only a few apart.

Thanks, Jeff

Jeff
I'll try to remember to get the engine number today, don't have it handy. I'll also try to find where I read about the last 200 3B's.
