Thought I would see what fitting fited into my orginial fuel pump. Checked three autoparts places, nothing they had fit at all.

Thought the Brits used standard pipe threads?

Was just going to put about a 5 inch tail on both the inlet and outlet sides. Guess I need to rethink the fuel pump issue. Maybe even an elec one in the rear near the tank.

I do have a blanking plate for the manual pump block mount.
 
I agree on the back. I have a cheapy upfront (under the carbs) and it makes a heck of a racket. Also -- think it has to work a bit harder to pull rather than push.

Thinking of moving / insullating it over the winter.
 
I am also considering converting to an electric pump this winter. I am thinking about a low pressure Holley pump with an adjustable regulator (1 - 4 psi).
Where in the rear area do people mount the pump? Also, where can you purchase the blanking plate for the mechanical pump on a 948?
 
Plate as far as I know is not availavle anywhere. I got mine off of a Morris Minor engine. Should be easy enough to make useing a gasket as a templete.

I have only really seen the elec pumps mounted in the rear on the Shut panel, the panel that the rear springs go into.

could be BSP and a crush washer.... or an inverted flare (doubtful)

Is it a take apart pump? If so get out the tap set....or the pot metal magnet?
 
I'm VERY happy with my carter rotary vane pump and holley low pressure regulator. I'd highly recommend the swap.

As for the plate, they're easy to make. Best material would be 3/16" aluminum, but I managed to use some heavy gauge steel plate and fender washers....
 
This may not work on the A-series, but on the 1500, I think a Chevy small block fuel pump blank works.
 
Of course tha A series is different completely.
 
My plate was made be a friend. Aluminum of some type. really wasn't that "fancy" -- after seeing it done -- could have done it myself as instructed above. Not a big deal.

My bugeye has an electric pump mounted above the driver's side rear shock. It's a low pressure electric pump from a local parts store. 25 bucks or so and quiet. It also has a regulator near the carbs.
 
Hey Rob,

As for your carter rotary vane pump, I just had a couple of questions:

Is it quiet?
What size line are you running?
Do you have it mounted in the back or front (where, to be precise)?
Is it susceptible to vapor lock?

Like Jack, I am in the process of figuring out my fuel delivery situation.
