MGB Would this be a good value for a restored 1967 MGB

Looks like the blue 67 which was up for sale on E-Bay last November. Same colour and shape etc which sold for about $1600. Was half tempted to buy it myself as it was located only 25 miles from where I live in Newport RI

One of my favorite places in the US to visit!

Just thinking about it makes me want dinner at the White Horse Tavern! Or The Red Parrot, A&O Fish, the Black Pearl....man, good eats all!

O my! What a contrast White Horse Tavern v Red Parrot

I prefer my local pub myself. Drive down Broadway next time you are here and look for a dark blue B parked outside "The Fastnet" (former Aiden's) and I'll buy you a pint

Cheers!

Keeping it off topic -- I too am a Newport fan. My mother was born and raised there (I grew up in Scituate, parents still live in Smithfield).

Every time someone out here (Utah) talks up a local seafood place, I have to laugh just a bit...

Yep - White Horse for special evening occassion - Red Parrot for a good sandwich & beer after long day out & about!

We always stay at the hotel up on Mary Street that was once Vanderbilt's guest house (not far from the Viking Hotel & across the parking lot from the large old Episcopal Church you see from anywhere in the wharf area).

Don't be surprised if I wander in one day!

Re: Would this be a good value for a restored 1967

Hi Ray. If you want a super nice MGB and are happy to pay the asking price, just make certain that you get a second opinion. At that price, the seller has a limited market and the car is going nowhere soon. You have time to find someone who is adroit at doing a hardcore inspection of the car. I have had very bad experiences with "professional restorers". The wording in his description is evasive at best.

Frankly, a professionally restored B car could easily go for well over 30 thou. If the guy that is trying to sell you the car balks at having it up on a lift, someone poking under the carpet, tugging under the dash, etc. then he is hiding something.

I've got over 40 into my resto-mod TR6 and if someone offered me 30, it's theirs.

A novel approach is to go to a big car show where there are an abundance of restored B bars, bring a little black bag filled with 300 hundred dollar bills, and approach the nicest MBG car you can find and pass that under his nose.
You might be amazed what you can buy for that much money.

Beware of dealers with evasive wording.

This is just my opinion but, paying 30 Gs for something that someone says, pay me first and I'll make it look pretty isn't very smart in my book. It's like buying a pig in a poke, especally when it's priced way over market value. But, it takes all kinds of people to make a world and there's probably someone out there with a couple extra bucks who would jump at the chance, just to say, I own a 30 G MGB!

Paying the whole 30 grand up front wouldn't be smart. But if your paying someone else to do the work you'd be hard pressed to get it done for less. Especially if their competent with LBC's.
