MGB Would this be a good value for a restored 1967 MGB

the B I drive (1975) is considered by some to be " THE LEAST DESIRABLE " . It is also a long way from the condition you are looking for,I've had it a little over a year, keep dumping money into it and I'm having FUN! The car you are looking for is "worth " whatever you pay for it as long as you enjoy it. Good luck with your search.

I know of people in your area that are BIG into MGB's. Send me a PM if you would like their contact information.
Cheers, David.

As you are in San Diego you should find the San Diego MG club there(they do have a website so a Google search will find them in seconds). Those folks are very knowledgable and would welcome your interest!

Way better plan! I still think you could get a "show-driver" in the $15k range.

That is what I am trying to do G.C. Still no mail to provide him the information. He could alway wait until October and attend British car days, and do some tyre kicking.
Cheers, David.

$30,000. Outrageously high.

When you think you've found the car, pay someone to find everything that's wrong with it that they can - someone who has no emotions linked to the car; someone with no connetion to it, you or the seller (or the auction company)! I've done those types of appraisals for people...not really an 'appraisal' but a punch list of items that were done incorrectly or are not up to the par of the asking price...&, in the long run, you'll be money ahead!

& if the seller or auction company won't allow your ouside appraiser to spend a couple of hours alone with the car, walk away from it!

Tony has good advice. For me, an MGB should be worth about $20,000 for the very best. Of course, an excellent unrestored original car would be the perfect find, then you know it was done right......by the factory......and you can build on things from there, or enjoy it as is.

IMHO, find a car you like - then find a restorer you trust - then be involved with every aspect of the restoration down to which nuts & bolts to replace/reuse...or pay somebody to hurt your feelings before your checkbook is hurt! Don't buy a 'spec' restoration as too many corners are cut in the pursuit of a profit that will retur to haunt you later on.

The current B we have was one of these. Some outfit in/near Chicago... car was made from three others (that I could tell), horribly stitched together, shoddily painted. We got it cheap as a result of a divorce. Putting it right was NOT cheap... and involved Port-a-powers and panel replacements.

Now, having said that - I'd buy a 'spec car' that Hap Waldrop or Tom Bedenbaugh built (if they ever built one!)
...but from one of the 'mass inventory' builders...

Too right... heck, I'd buy one ~I~ built.

Is anyone familiar with Mike Goodman as an MG restorer. I found a 1967 MGB (completely restored by him 4 years ago) for sale.

Mike Goodman retired ten years ago so I would doubt the claims of the seller. But as far as Mike's abilities, he is considered one of the foremost MG restoration experts in the southwest if not in the world. He specializes in T-Series cars. It was a great loss to the MG community, especially the Southern California one, when he retired.

On a side note, I've been in San Diego for ten days and I haven't seen one British car. Where are you people? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I have provided him with local contact information, but he has yet to phone. He maybe just tyre kicking, or testing to water?
Cheers, David.
