I'm out in the western suburbs, near-ish to DeKalb (and I went to Northern for a year as well). What happens is the winds and frigid air masses from the plains blow straight in, practically rolling straight across Iowa from Nebraska. I actually preferred the wind coming in off the lake when I was downtown, mostly because it would end fairly quickly and never seemed quite as cold. The winds coming in off the fields are just relentless, practically in another dimension from being in the city itself.

I'll take the dry cold in Colorado over the wet/humid cold the mid west and eastern states get. Layers work out here. Back there... cold is cold layers or not. One quirk of really cold and really dry mixed all together, if you breath in through your nose (which is actually recommended) your nostrils can stick together. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Now that is a strange feeling, even if they come back apart as soon as you relax. Brrrr! Yuma’s getting cold these days. Mercury barely broke 90° F, yesterday and now their call’in for a chilly & blustery Hi of 79° F. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Returning home to Poway – Turkey Day should mostly sunny but even cooler than Yuma at about 68° F.

This is our first snow of the season. Actually very welcome - as I don't have to drive to work in it!

Gives me some time to refurb TeeYah's sidescreens. (and eat fresh apple cobbler)

I'd find that strange as I am sure warmer climate people would feel that same it the situ were reversed. Turkey day and xmas have always been cold, damp, chilly or snowy for me being a New yawka all my life. It would not feel the same if I were in a warmer climate.

A few years ago my mom lived in Bermuda and she called me on xmas from the beech. That's just wrong.
 
Sez you, Vince. We have an annual BOAT parade here, we sit out on a dock, in shirtsleeves and CABs in-hand, watchin' boats festoon'd with Christmas lights 'n decorations, bikini clad "elves" as crew on a few of 'em...

77 degrees here, is it cold somewhere? ( just rubbing it in).
 
I would have no problem having Thanksgiving on a beach in the tropical zone........For me there is no "traditional" Thanksgiving, as we don't observe the holiday in the UK. I could learn to suffer through Christmas on the beach too, especially with Doc's bikini-clad elves!

nahh. All very serene. Some of the "floats" have Christmas music playin' tho.
 
We have gone down to the intercoastal to watch the parade on several occasions. I like it, but parking 'round these parts is getting crazy.
