worn Webber carb

I had taken my car to my local mechanic for a tune up (yes, there are some things that I will pay someone else to do). He said that the nosie I had been hearing was coming from my carb - the shaft holding the choke plates had badly worn out the carb body and was rattling. Short of buying a new carb, is there anything that I can do? I have a Webber DGV down draft.

Fred Mcconnell (blackmgb) has one listed for sale over at the MGBE trader section. That may be a reasonable fix to your problem. bob

If you are talented with this sort of thing, or have a tame machinist, make a couple of bushings, and fix the existing air horn. If you had some tubing that the choke shaft fit well in, and turned down a section on 2 pieces, drill the air horn for a loose but press fit, and viola, you are good to go. Leave the larger diameter of the new bushings on the outside of the air horn to prevent inadvertant swallowing of small parts, and a little locktite... Good to go.

Jesse - I may want to save this as a last resort.

Anyone - I did find a DGEV for sale, new, for $269 : www.WEBBERCARBSDIRECT.COM. Carb only, not manifold, etc. Does this sound like a good price? Is anyone familiar with this company?
