Worn out throw out bearing

Gentlemen:

While on vacation this summer I loaned my car to a friend. When I returned to the island the car wouldn't shift gears. The friend hasn't fessed up to anything - but I really wonder if he knew how to drive a stick. A few months ago I did a rebuild on the M/C and slave, thinking I might've had air in the lines. After bleeding the slave I still couldn't get enough pressure on the clutch fork - even with the slave push rod all the way out. Today I took out the engine and found that the throw out bearing was completely worn down.

Now, I had the clutch replaced when I had the 1275 installed in April. The throw out bearing was replaced at that time.

Any thoughts as to what might be wrong?

The carbon release bearing has a reputation for wearing very quickly if used improperly, ie riding the pedel, or holding the clutch in while stopped, but 8 months is a little ridiculous. maybe is was a bad bearing in the first place.

Many replacement carbon bearings are junk. And yes no carbon on the bearing will make it hard to shift.
Are you sure the pushrod is the correct length? 2-11/16" from center of hole to end for a 1275.
Also, each engine has it's own bearing, 948s, 1098s, and 1275s all use a different bearing. The bearing arm from a 1098 tranny will be different from that of a 1275 ribcase, all these factors have to be correct or the bearing will stay riding on the plate and wear out in no time.
But I have had a new bearing loose it's carbon out of the holder in a day or so. lousy glue I guess so no more asian made bearings for me.

However, I used the same carbon throw out bearing for 20 years.
