So...In the photo I know the left reservoir is brake fluid. Is the one on the right clutch? What sort of fluid goes in it? What are the electrical wires for?
thanks.

Almost forgot...Found this thing in a box in the trunk. What is it???!!!

Brake fluid goes in both master cylinders....the wires are for the brake lights.

& that thing you fond in the trunk is the wiper motor.

Thanks Tony. I hope my next question will be more intelligent.

Gary:
On this forum there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.
Usually provided by me!
If you don't know what something is, just ask. I'm sure no one will be upset or stupid.

Gary, Just be aware that brake fluid and paint remover are essentially the same thing, except that brake fluid is more effective at removing paint.

...and previous owners of your car have experienced that firsthand!

The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked...

You probably know this already, Gary, but when working around brake fluid, it's a good idea to roll up your sleeves and if you still accidentally splash some fluid on your clothing, you might want to consider removing the contaminated garment quickly.

I the past, I've gotten some nice chemical burns from not doing this.

Thanks for all of the info and encouragement. Actually, I DIDN'T know about brake fluid being so caustic...glad you mentioned it! I'm just now trying to learn about mechanicing so doing all of this is sloooow process. We'll stay at it though.

I should clarify: I don't think it's caustic if it's just on your skin ( although it's possibly carcinogenic), but when it soaks into clothing and gets trapped between your skin and clothing, it's about the same as forgetting that you tucked a painting rag soaked with mineral spirits in your back pocket. Not pleasant. At least, not for me, but I could just have sensitive skin.

Now, just for fun, look up behind your glove box area & see if you have a wiper motor already there.

Hi Gary,

When I got my '74 B-GT last December, only 1 rear brake was working. I haven't done much work on cars for decades, but the Haynes MGB manual, friends, John Twist videos on Youtube, and forums like this got me through the rebuilding and I now have very good brakes. Stick with it, and good luck!

Harry

And another thing you need is a good shop manual - get the Bentley manual that covers your car....they're available through Moss or on Amazon.

:iagree: The Bentley manual is the best one.

And a digital camera for "before" pix to use as reference for reassembly will help a lot. Posting same here may reveal any DPO issues...
and give us somethin' to look at, too.

We're sticking with it and learning a lot...it's actually fun. Thanks for the kind words Harry.

Well Tony...I had the fun of looking for the wiper motor. It's no there...just the cannon plug and rod. Probably need to rebuild this motor or get a new one. We'll test this one first. Thanks.

I bought a manual on CD and it's helped a lot but I probably should buy the Bentley one.

I'm betting it's shot....find a good, used one.

Do you happen to have one?

Or an overfilled Zippo lighter in your pocket. You do remember Zippo's don't you?

An even better example bgbassplyr. I remember Zippo all too well. I think I still have one around here somewhere.Oh...the horror.
