Working on the BE side curtains

I am cleaning up and getting ready to put new rubber on the side curtains that came with the 59 BE I recently bought and have these questions. Does the smooth side of the side curtains go toward the interior or the exterior of the car. The mounting clips are off the side curtains, but I do have them. What is the best way to slide the new rubber seals into the groves. I spent the better part of the afternoon cleaning out the old hard rubber that was in the bottom groves. That was the only rubber left on the side curtains and it was just even with the top of the channel it went in. The side curtains have Weathershield Reg Design and the # 883598-600 stamped on each one. I cleaned them up with very fine steel wool and they look pretty good.

On my BE, and I imagine the rest, the brackets mount to the inside of the frames (with the "U"s facing towards the back)! I am not sure what you are referring to as the "smooth sides" of the frames (mine are smooth on both sides)! A little dish soap and wetness both in the groove and on the rubber should help sliding the rubber into place!
