What's the story on Ariel?

[/ QUOTE ]

The Ariel "Square Four" was one of the hot bikes when I was a kid - that and the Vincent "Black Shadow" were about the quickest bikes you could ride (both about 1 litre).

Ariel is one of the great classic English bike companies, right up there with Norton, AJS, and Matchless. I'm sure a google search on some of these names will show up some interesting websites.

I was sitting at a stoplight a few years back, driving my very tweaked Sprite, when I heard an engine that sounded exactly like mine. I turned around to see who else had a hot Spridget, only to find it was an Ariel Square Four.
What an impressive bike!
A friend still has his Vincent Black Shadow, in exactly the same shape it was after he drove it through a chain link fence somewhere around 1959! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif
