Wool Trench/peacoat needed

I have a real Navy wool peacoat here (38R) fits almost right but it's too small. I've looked around but can't find anything "real" that won't cost me an arm and a leg and I can't go for the walmart stuff. I'd rather put that $$$ in my car. Anyone have a good source for military surplus or an extra that they'd let go cheap? I normally wear a 42L. Thanks.

feh... Too much of what I posted is trash'd. I have my 36R ~ISSUE~ USAF wool an' it fits me still.

If ya wanna dress in proper military attire, ya shoulda BEEN there...

Sorry, Billy, but REMF ain't my favorites.

Did ya go thru Chicago?

Doc, you loaded or somthing?

All I want is a decent well made coat to keep from freezin' my arse off when I drive my car. (read CHEAP, thus SURPLUS !!!)

What would you have me buy, cheap Chinese made Wal-mart crap?!?!?!?!?!

Chicago? WTH are you talking about ?!?!?!?!?!

I have to say, I'm REALLY suprised at ~YOUR~ answer.

Just lookin' for a coat, not lookin' to deploy.

WTH gave you that idea to begin with ???

(You're the self proclaimed king of "cheap"....I'd think you'd understand.)

I gotta 8mm Mauser too.....guess that makes me a Nazi. :wall:

(....BTW....~THAT~ was a gift.....)

I guess I should give it back.....seenin' I wasn't ~THERE~ .....

I have to admit, it ~REALLY~ suprises me how just a simple benign statement or question draws such wild accusations and comments....it especially suprises me that it is happening ~HERE~.

Don't go gettin' yer knickers in a twist, sir. I am cheap. I do not think Wally world is a good place to find a winter coat. The "A-N surplus" stores I've been to lately seem to have the SAME Chinese junk in 'em! And at outrageous prices. Only way I know to get a REAL pea coat is thru the Navy.

I don't think the Mauser needs givin' back, and I'm ~certain~ you ain't a Nazi.

Sorry if my opinion is contrary to your way of thinkin', it's just my opinion. I don't consider it a "wild accusation". You shouldn't either.

I apologize for any bent feelings.

...now let's go out an' plink some cans... I have a P-38 available.

They are out there. Some on ebay and some for STUPID prices. Got the one I have now from a garage sale. Just figured someone here might not want theirs anymore.

You can buy new standard issue stuff....for stupid $$$ and some surplus estores want stupid $$$ for ferrin coats as well. Stuff I've seen for $40 going for $200+.

I found one I like for $40, but I'm afraid it'll be too big. It's Italian Navy "large" size. I'm not familar what sizes Italian seamen come in.

I understand your opinion, but it really doesn't apply that well here as the peacoat has got to be the most copied military uniform item EVER !!! It has long since lost it's military association and is now a fasion item.

I want a real coat, not something that looks like a coat but doesn't perform up to spec.

I want an "old" Navy peacoat, not an "Old Navy" peacoat.

(yes, Old Navy makes 'em too.)

The one I really want I saw in a jewlry commercial and has a 60's vibe to it, but I don't know who makes it. It's definalty not issue.

I had the old BDU field jacket that I usually wear, but I feel stupid driving around in my car wearing camo. (although, EVERYONE here wears camo all year long no matter where they're going. It's not uncommon to see it in churches.)

Camo in church doesn't bother me...camo in a LBC's does.

My last issue jungle camo boonie hat is surgically attached. Don't matter WHAT car I'm drivin'. Keeps th' glare off'n me head from blindin' other motorists.

You have one of these in one of the tool sheds?

Don't I wish.

Doc, I'm beginning to worry again....I also have a P-38 to go with my M1911.

Got one of those also...had it since 1967!

I got one of TRMarks P-38s.. Use it all the time. Mine is a bit sharper than standard issue. works smoother on cans, and becomes useful for other things as well. Keep it right on my key ring. right along with a Boy-Scout issue Magnesium fire starting stick (throws a shower of sparks when scraped with a knife). Ya never know.
as for coats. my $15 Salvation Army find is a 28 oz wool, USAF Overcoat (Mil-0-3311) according to the tag. Goodstien Bros. & Co. dated 19 Mar.1951
Dark blue, silver buttons, heavy, and VERY warm. I only bring it out in Sub-zero temps. it's too bulky otherwise.
Thrift stores hold many jewels.

The P-coat I got for my son some years back for college came from a thrift store. The real-deal. Also had a bullet hole in it. Ouch.

Or a .45 caliber Moth... hehehehe... I like the Bullet hole story better.

"REMF"....now there's a term you don't hear very often....thanks, Doc.....now my PTSD will go into overload!

Ah, but I'd bet your 1911 is an A-1.
Mine is straight-grip WWI issue.

Yep, mine is an A-1.

Bought another .45 the other day....a Smith & Wesson with safety on either side.....ex-police model....think it'll take the p-lace of my 1911 under the seat of my truck....1911's becoming to valuable to lay around under there gathering dust (though it was perfect for the job because dust & dirt never hampered it).

What is your $$ range? We're going to hit some thrift stores this weekend and I'll keep an eye out for you. Plus Chicago has all sorts of "vintage" stores - and I like a treasure hunt! Let me know.

Getting back on subject. I think wearing a pea coat while driving a LBC would be very "period" I had a pea coat in the early 70's, I assume I wore it my TR4. More often I think I wore my jungle jacket, kinda period also.

So, what kind of hat are you looking for?
